Overview
Diatex is a French industrial company specializing in the design and manufacture of technical textiles and composite materials processing consumables. Founded in 1986 and based near Lyon in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, the company operates two sites covering 11,000 m² and employs around one hundred people. It is organized around four divisions: Composites, Advanced Textiles, Light Aircraft, and Agrotextiles. The Composites division, which began in 1991 with the patented VACUOPLEX™ vacuum molding complex, now represents more than 60% of the company's activity and serves major customers such as Boeing, Airbus, Vestas and the Beneteau Group. The Advanced Textiles division, created in the 1990s, supplies fabrics for ventilation ducts, filtration, industry, aeronautics, events and personal protection, accounting for roughly 24% of business. The Agrotextiles division, the company's original activity, represents about 14% of business and provides nets and fabrics for agricultural research, seed companies, horticulturists and institutions such as CNRS. The Light Aircraft division offers structural fabrics, engineering paints and equipment for light aircraft coverings and coatings. Diatex is certified EN9100 for the aeronautical market since 2005 and holds OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 labeling since 2012. In 2015 the company acquired its TDM weaving subsidiary and invested €2 million to modernize the site to aeronautical standards, earning EN9100 certification in 2016. Diatex emphasizes innovation, French design and a social and environmental approach, including eco-design principles in its composite consumables. The company exhibits at major industry events such as JEC World and SAMPE and is a sponsor of the SAMPE France association.
History
Diatex began its activity in 1986 through its Agro-textiles division. Over the following decades this division developed substantially and came to represent about 14% of the company's business, counting major names in agricultural biotechnology, seed companies, horticulturists, the CNRS and farmers among its customers. The company soon diversified into a specific French market: fabrics for interlining and masking for light aircraft. Although marginal in terms of growth, this activity remained highly symbolic and became the Light Aircraft Division. In the 1990s, Diatex created its Advanced Textiles division, manufacturing fabrics for ventilation ducts, filtration, industry, aeronautics, events and personal protection. This division now represents around 24% of the company's activity. Also in the 1990s, the Composites division was introduced with a highly innovative program: a range of products, processes and supports for the vacuum processing of composite materials. The goal was to collaborate with some of the biggest names in aeronautics, shipbuilding and wind energy, which is now the case with customers such as Boeing, Airbus, Vestas and the Beneteau Group. The Composites division today represents more than 60% of the activity. A key event in Diatex's growth was the 2015 purchase of its TDM weaving subsidiary. The company invested €2 million on the site to modernize it and bring it up to aeronautical standards. An aeronautical certification EN9100 in 2016 rewarded these efforts and set the weaving operation on a path of excellence. Diatex also decided early on to partner with its supplier. The company has been certified EN9100 for the aeronautical market since 2005 and has held OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 human-ecological safety labeling since 2012. Based near Lyon in the heart of a textile industrial area, Diatex has been innovating and manufacturing its specific fabrics in its Drômoise factory for over 35 years, positioning itself in niche markets of the high-technology sector such as aeronautics, wind energy, events, PPE and filtration. The group operates on two sites in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, covering 11,000 m² and employing around one hundred people. In 1991, the Composites division was born from a technical textile development for composite materials molding under vacuum: the VACUOPLEX™, the first vacuum molding technical complex invented and patented by Diatex. Today the Composites division focuses on four transformation processes: composites vacuum molding, composites vacuum infusion, RTM injection (Resin Transfer Molding) and RTM LIGHT injection. In these technologies, Diatex provides technical support, a range of technical fabrics, vacuum molding and infusion consumables, vacuum machines and systems, RTM injection machines, and a training space for classes and demonstrations. The manufacturing process of the Composites division follows an eco-design mindset in response to strong client demand, aiming to manufacture products more anchored in environmental friendliness within REACH recommendations, including water-based release agents, biodegradable films, multilayer/multiproduct complexes to reduce waste, single/double-sided adhesive fabrics to avoid glue sprays, and fabrics manufacturing including waste water reprocessing. Diatex is a sponsor of the SAMPE France association.
