Die Medienanstalten

Die Medienanstalten is the umbrella brand (Dachmarke) under which the 14 Landesmedienanstalten in Germany cooperate on nationwide committees, expert bodies and working groups. They are described as the central supervisory authorities for the regulation of private broadcasting and telemedia in Germany, with the core mandate of safeguarding the diversity of media offerings and opinions and protecting media freedom. Media regulation in Germany is organized federally, and the state media authorities work together under the umbrella brand on matters of cross-state significance and on central tasks and projects. The Gemeinsame Geschäftsstelle der Medienanstalten (GGS) in Berlin coordinates this nationwide cooperation with around 30 staff.
