Overview

Dietiker AG is a Swiss furniture company based in Stein am Rhein that has been designing and developing high-quality seating solutions in Swiss quality since 1873, for use in the Health & Care and conference sectors. Together with well-known designers it has developed numerous design classics and product innovations. The company describes itself as a family business with over 145 years of experience and a pronounced passion for design. Its product range includes chairs, lounges and tables, and it has received awards including the 2018 audience prize at Designers' Saturday in Langenthal and the D'S Award 2016 Gold.

History

Dietiker traces its history to 1873, when a small manufactory was founded; over almost 40 years it developed into a significant factory. Johann Peter Dietiker, a wealthy young man, bought the company in 1918 and gave it his name, which is known as the brand. Until the end of the 1940s the company could rely on an almost natural prosperity, with products that were solid quality work in every respect. In the 1950s the golden post-war period began; classical modernism became established, but in rural Stein am Rhein the traditional style was maintained. In 1959 the company was sold to Migros. Edlef Bandixen, the new managing director, was a newcomer from northern Germany, unburdened by local traditions and open to a fresh start in every respect. Bandixen was not only managing director but also a gifted designer. Together with Willi Guhl, a talented designer, they repositioned the company in the market. Guhl focused on the innovative design of furniture; his first chair, model 3100, became the birth chair of a new era. The duo Guhl/Bandixen shaped the next 30 years and led Dietiker with ever-new talents such as Bruno Rey to further successes.
