It focuses on information and communication technologies to support women's rights, inclusiveness, democratic processes, and digital governance, through services including its flagship Digital Security Helpline, capacity-building trainings, and direct legal aid support in technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV) cases for young women and girls. DRF has worked on access, digital citizenship, online safety and TFGBV, disinformation and gendered disinformation, digital literacy, and awareness about emerging technologies such as AI and generative AI.
History
Digital Rights Foundation (DRF) has been working on providing safe online spaces in Pakistan since 2013. The demand for a reliable, confidential, and judgement-free resource for women and girls facing technology-facilitated gender-based violence became evident through DRF's Hamara Internet project, where young women frequently sought guidance on handling threats to their online presence. In December 2016, DRF launched the Cyber Harassment Helpline. After 8 years of providing support to thousands of women, children, journalists, and human rights defenders, the organization reimagined itself as the Digital Security Helpline.
