Overview
DixieFrog is an independent French record label dedicated primarily to blues music. Founded in May 1986 by Alain Leadfoot Rivet and Philippe Langlois, the label has built a catalogue of active recording and touring artists. Beyond straight blues, DixieFrog has explored musical crossovers, notably encounters between blues and world music, and even between blues and hip-hop. The label is based in Paris and operates in France and internationally. On 1 January 2020, Philippe Langlois handed over the label to two new owners, André Brodzki and François Maincent. Under the new ownership, the label signed artists such as Johnny Gallagher, Grant Haua, SuperDownHome, Jessie Lee and the Alchemists, The Supersoul Brothers, Natalia M King, Phillip-Michael Scales and Kaz Hawkins. In 2021, the label reissued its vinyl records. As DixieFrog celebrated its 35th anniversary, the label released an unreleased track by Fred Chapellier, 'Don't Take Me for a Loser'.
History
DixieFrog was founded in May 1986 by Alain Leadfoot Rivet and Philippe Langlois as an independent French record label focused on blues. From its base in Paris, the label developed a catalogue of active artists who regularly record and perform live. While blues remained its core, DixieFrog also pursued musical crossovers, particularly between blues and world music, and between blues and hip-hop. On 1 January 2020, Philippe Langlois transferred ownership of the label to André Brodzki and François Maincent. The new owners quickly signed a roster of new artists, including Johnny Gallagher, Grant Haua, SuperDownHome, Jessie Lee and the Alchemists, The Supersoul Brothers, Natalia M King, Phillip-Michael Scales and Kaz Hawkins. In 2021, the label reissued its vinyl records. That same year, as DixieFrog marked its 35th anniversary, it released an unreleased track by Fred Chapellier titled 'Don't Take Me for a Loser'.
