DMM

DMM is a climbing and mountaineering equipment brand based in north Wales. Founded in 1981 as Moorhouse Engineering in Bethesda, it became DMM and moved to more suitable premises in Llanberis in 1986, and in 2021 it celebrated 40 years of manufacturing. The company began with four employees and, forty years later, employed just over 200 men and women. From the outset it developed products in two main areas: recreational climbing and mountaineering, alongside products aimed at more industrial markets. Its official shop organises products around climbing disciplines and work-at-height uses including Trad Climbing, Tree Care, Rope Access, Sport Climbing and Bouldering.

The company celebrated 40 years of manufacturing in 2021. In 1981 it employed just four people; forty years later it had just over 200 men and women on payroll and described itself as an important employer in the area. The original premise of the founding directors was to make the best possible equipment at the best price, a premise the company says has remained central to its thinking. From the very outset it developed products in two main areas: recreational climbing and mountaineering, alongside products aimed at more industrial markets, with the two areas complementing each other. The company states that innovation is key to its development and that it has continually invested in its factory, plant, machinery and tooling as well as in product development plans, aiming to lead the field in its specialist areas from its base in north Wales. It has added a large extension to the factory site to allow a purpose-built assembly area and a CNC machining area.
