Overview
Dobrý anděl ("Good Angel") is a Czech private charitable foundation founded on 8 November 2011 by entrepreneurs Petr Sýkora and Jan Černý, following the model of the Slovak foundation Nadácia Dobrý anjel. The co-founders include former Slovak president and businessman Andrej Kiska. The foundation supports families with children who have fallen into difficult life situations due to serious illness of a family member — a child, mother, or father. Donors, called "Good Angels," contribute regular monthly payments, and the foundation distributes all funds received in a given month to families on the first working day of the following month. The foundation's operating costs are covered by the private finances of its founders and other philanthropists, as well as bequests, so that all donor contributions go to families. The foundation's pillars include "Do posledního haléře" (To the last penny), "Víte, komu pomáháte" (You know whom you help), and "Pomáháte pravidelně" (You help regularly). Donors receive access to an Angel Account where they can see which specific families their contributions support. The foundation also operates an e-shop with gift items such as socks and mugs, and produces a podcast called "Všecko DOBRÝ."
History
Dobrý anděl was founded on 8 November 2011 as a foundation fund (nadační fond) by entrepreneurs Petr Sýkora and Jan Černý, who had sold their company Papirius in 2006. The foundation was inspired by the Slovak foundation Nadácia Dobrý anjel. Co-founders include former Slovak president and businessman Andrej Kiska. On 23 April 2015, the organization changed its legal form from a foundation fund to a foundation (nadace), becoming DOBRÝ ANDĚL, nadace. The foundation's mission is to help families with children who have fallen into difficult situations due to serious illness. Donors, called "Good Angels," contribute via regular or one-time payment orders to account number 8001008/5500, using their Angel Number as a variable symbol. All funds received in a given month are distributed equally among families on the first day of the following month. The foundation's operating costs are covered by the private finances of its founders and other philanthropists, as well as bequests. Founders Sýkora and Černý donated a total of 25 million Czech korunas for the development and operation of the foundation. The foundation's pillars are: "Do posledního haléře" (To the last penny), "Víte, komu pomáháte" (You know whom you help), and "Pomáháte pravidelně" (You help regularly). Each month, an average of 100 new families apply for help. Support is provided for conditions such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy, ALS, butterfly skin disease, chronic intestinal diseases, organ failure, multiple sclerosis, and severe metabolic disorders. The duration of support depends on the type of illness: for oncological diseases, 2 years for children and 3 years for adults, with possible extension; for other serious illnesses, generally until the child patient reaches 18.5 years of age, and for adults as long as conditions are met. The foundation also operates an e-shop with gift items and produces a podcast called "Všecko DOBRÝ," hosted by Johan Mádr with co-founder Petr Sýkora.
