Overview

Dohiemon (ど冷えもん) is a Japanese frozen vending machine brand introduced in 2021 by SDRS Inc., the company formerly known as Sanden Retail Systems Corporation. It is described by its parent as the industry's first frozen vending machine, extending the company's long cold-chain heritage into a new retail format. The brand sits within SDRS's vending machine business, which also includes beverage and food vending machines, and is part of a product family that has grown to include the Dohiemon GO smartphone app (2022) and the Gachaemon capsule-toy vending machine (2026). SDRS Inc. traces its origins to Sanden Corporation, founded in 1943, which began producing ice cream stockers and refrigerated/frozen showcases in 1958 and later became a global cold-chain equipment maker. The retail systems business was spun off from Sanden Holdings (now Sanden Corporation) on April 1, 2015, and Sanden Retail Systems Corporation was established on July 29, 2019. The company renamed itself SDRS Inc. on April 1, 2026. Dohiemon was launched in 2021 as the industry's first frozen vending machine, followed by the Dohiemon GO smartphone app in 2022. Dohiemon is positioned as a vending solution for frozen products, allowing retailers to sell frozen foods and other items through unattended machines. It reflects SDRS's strategy of applying its refrigeration and cold-chain expertise to new retail formats. The brand is part of a broader portfolio that includes the MMV next-generation vending machine, the MIXTA multi-powder machine, the RevoCool movable cool box, and the Dekomulti vending machine with a display window. SDRS reported consolidated revenue of 89 billion yen and 1,507 employees for fiscal 2025, with domestic sales offices across Japan and overseas bases in the United States, Germany, Italy, China, the Philippines, Thailand, and Taiwan.

History

Dohiemon is a product brand of SDRS Inc., a Japanese company with deep roots in refrigeration and cold-chain equipment. The parent company's history begins with Sanden Corporation, founded in 1943. In 1958 Sanden began producing ice cream stockers and refrigerated/frozen showcases, and its engineers succeeded in creating the industry's first see-through showcase, which became a hit product. In 1961 the company developed an innovative fountain-style juice vending machine, solidifying its position in cooling technology. In 1971 it entered a technical tie-up with Kaiser of the United States and began selling large showcases for supermarkets. In 1988 it acquired Vendo, then the second-largest vending machine maker in the United States, becoming an international company with production and sales bases around the world. In 1989 it established Sanden Refrigeration Thailand, its first overseas showcase production company. In 1993 its heat-storage energy-saving system for beverage vending machines won the Director-General's Award from the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy. In 2002 the Sanden Forest Akagi Office was completed in what is now Maebashi, Gunma. In 2004 it developed a non-fluorocarbon canned beverage vending machine using CO2 refrigerant. In 2011 it launched the Eneranger, a socially contributive beverage vending machine that can provide drinks even during power outages and other emergencies. In 2018 it took a capital stake in Sonsam Intercool in Thailand, accelerating overseas business expansion, and brought a variety of food-related machines to market, represented by the fully automatic drip coffee machine Crista II. On October 1, 2019, Sanden Retail Systems was established as a new company for the retail systems business, carrying forward the founding spirit and company creed from Sanden Corporation as 'Sanden culture' while building a culture of 'challenge' as the basis of a new vision. The company continued to propose new products and services for cold-chain challenges. In 2020 it rolled out products with new functions such as the next-generation high-function vending machine MMV and the multi-powder machine MIXTA, and launched the movable cool box RevoCool. In 2021 it launched Dohiemon, described as the industry's first frozen vending machine. In 2022 it released the Dohiemon GO smartphone app and began production of the tabletop vending machine Takkukun. In 2023 it launched the RevoCool Cube, a vehicle-mounted refrigerated/frozen box. In 2024 it released a locker-type vending machine. In 2025 it introduced Dekomulti, a general-purpose vending machine equipped with a display window that can display actual products. In February 2026 the capsule-toy vending machine Gachaemon appeared, and in April 2026 Sanden Retail Systems Corporation changed its name to SDRS Inc. Dohiemon thus represents the application of SDRS's long cold-chain expertise to a new vending format. It is part of a vending machine portfolio that spans beverages, food, frozen products, and specialty formats, and it has been extended with a dedicated smartphone app. The brand name uses the Japanese suffix '-emon,' which also appears in Gachaemon, suggesting a family branding strategy for vending machines.
