Overview
DOM Omiya Shopping Center (大宮西口DOMショッピングセンター) is a shopping center located at the west exit of Omiya Station in Omiya-ku, Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture, Japan. It is operated by Omiya Nishiguchi Kyodo Building Co., Ltd. (大宮西口共同ビル株式会社), a company whose registered office is at 2-3 Sakuragicho, Omiya-ku, Saitama City. The center opened in September 1982, constructed by Fujita, and was developed through a land trust arrangement in which landowners contributed their land under a strip-shaped collective land readjustment method. The name DOM derives from the initials of its original core tenants — Daiei (D), Omiya (O), and Marui (M) — and also carries the meaning of 'don-don shukyaku' (attracting customers steadily). The official reading of the name is 'Don.' The center is composed of the Marui zone, the Aeon Style zone (formerly the Daiei zone), the Hands store, and a specialist store street. Across the road to the west lies DOM PART II Gourmet Plaza / multi-story parking building, connected to the second-floor parking level by a pedestrian deck. DOM PART III (Omiya Nishiguchi Kyodo Building Annex) is a separate building near the Kanetsuka Park scramble intersection, housing tenants such as Tokyo Star Bank's Omiya branch financial lounge, a dental clinic, Open House's Omiya West sales center, Tokyo Individualized Educational Institute, Eikoh Seminar, and the Omiya blood donation room West. Over the decades, the tenant mix has changed significantly. Daiei and Marui were the original anchors. In February 2007, the Daiei floor was reduced and renovated, with OPA opening on part of the second and third floors, Tokyu Hands (now Hands) on the fourth and fifth floors, and Marui expanding into the sixth floor. In 2016, Marui closed its sixth and seventh floors within the Daiei zone, reducing its scale. In January 2017, OPA closed. From 2017 onward, new tenants such as Montbell, GAP, Uniqlo, Honey's, Tutuanna, Sakazen, Waseda Academy, Welcia Pharmacy, Football Park, Daiso, Nojima, Taito F Station, Muji, Ishii Sports, and others opened and in some cases later closed. In 2024, Daiso within the former Daiei zone moved from the seventh to the sixth floor and transitioned into a combined store with Standard Products and THREEPY. In 2025, Aeon Retail took over the operation of Daiei, one of the core tenants. Daiei Omiya store suspended operations on January 31, 2025, and Aeon Retail succeeded the operation on March 1, 2025, renaming the Daiei zone as the Aeon zone. On June 4, 2025, the store reopened as Aeon Style Omiya West Exit Station Front after renovation. The center remains active, with events such as its 44th anniversary planned for 2026, and continues to serve as a major retail hub at the west exit of Omiya Station, about a three-minute walk from the station.
