History

The group's history pages trace the Dong-A Ilbo's origins: the inaugural issue was published on April 1, 1920, with Kim Seong-su as the representative of the founding promoters and Park Yeong-hyo as the first president, and the office was decided to be a hanok building at 138 Hwa-dong, Seoul (the former Jungang School). The founding spirit declared in the inaugural issue was that the Dong-A Ilbo would be a 'representative organ of the nation,' support democracy, and advocate culturalism. The first issue was an 8-page enlarged edition, and from the second issue it was published as a 4-page evening paper. In December 1926, a three-story office building was completed at the Sejongno intersection in Seoul, opening the Gwanghwamun era six and a half years after founding. On December 1, 2011, the comprehensive programming channel Channel A was launched, opening a new era of combined newspaper and broadcasting operations.
