Overview
Dream Photonics is a company working towards a future fueled by photonics and electronics, with locations in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and Woodinville, Washington, USA. Its offerings include PWB Laser Integration, PWB Fiber Integration, Device and Systems IP, Photonic Wire Bonding Lenses, and Process Design Kits. The company has developed a Process Design Kit for AIM Photonics and has enabled hybrid integration solutions using photonic wirebonds.
History
Dream Photonics is a team working to tackle the biggest challenges of the semiconductor era, leveraging expertise and resources in photonics and electronics. In 2020, the company completed its first tapeout to build the Dream Photonics Process Design Kit for AIM Photonics. In 2021, it engaged with customers and partners to enable hybrid integration solutions using photonic wirebonds, and enabled a fiber attach solution for the AMF silicon photonics platform using photonic wirebonds, which is currently available as a public offering. In 2022, the Dream Photonics AIM PDK was officially launched; the PDK enables a wide range of custom applications by providing various leading-edge O-band and C-band components with layout-views, extensive documentation, and advanced circuit simulation models based on experimental data for various EDA toolsets. It includes a selection of Dream Photonics leading-edge silicon-verified devices and application examples for O-band and C-band for both TE and TM polarizations. The company also enabled the first open-access MPW tape-out with hybrid integrated lasers in collaboration with Applied Nanotools and CMC Microsystems. In 2023, it expanded its portfolio of PIC hybrid integration solutions through photonic wirebonding and expanded its IP Cores offering and PDK maturity by collaborating with additional foundry partners and customers. Dream Photonics received support from the National Research Council Industrial Research Assistance Program and was one of 11 Canadian firms funded to collaborate on projects with U.K. partners.
