Overview

Dreambed Co., Ltd. (ドリームベッド株式会社) is a Japanese bedding and furniture manufacturer headquartered in Nishi-ku, Hiroshima. Its origins trace to October 1950, when the business began by repairing and reselling beds obtained through the Japanese government's Special Procurement Agency from the occupying forces. It was incorporated in 1957, when the manufacturing division of Hiroshima Bed Shokai was separated to form Dreambed Co., Ltd. The company has emphasized in-house manufacturing since its founding, handling everything from design through production so that it can shape customers' preferences into finished beds and mattresses. Dreambed's business spans its own-name brand, dream bed, and a portfolio of licensed international brands that it manufactures and sells in Japan. It holds licensing relationships with Serta of the United States (since 1978), Ligne Roset of France (since 1981), RUF of Germany (first licensed in 1975, ended in 1998, and re-licensed in 2007), and King Koil of the United States (licensed in November 2024, announced June 2025). It also operates WATER WORLD, described as Japan's only waterbed brand, offering wave-control and lumbar-support technologies with after-sales service. The company runs showrooms for its brands in cities including Hiroshima, Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka and Fukuoka, and sells to both consumer and contract markets such as hotels and hospitals. Dreambed is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Standard Market. It listed on the Second Section in June 2021 and moved to the Standard Market on April 4, 2022. Its representative director and president is Hiroto Miyake (三宅弘人). The company marked its 70th anniversary in October 2020. It continues to announce price revisions, new store openings such as the Ligne Roset Umeda store scheduled for May 22, 2026, and brand campaigns including Serta promotions and a RUF 100th anniversary fair.

History

Dreambed's history begins in October 1950, when the business started by repairing and reselling beds obtained from the occupying forces through Japan's Special Procurement Agency. In January 1957 Hiroshima Bed Shokai was established, and in July of the same year the manufacturing division was separated to form Dreambed Co., Ltd. In April 1964 Dream Furniture Co., Ltd. was established, and in September the company changed its name to H-B Dreambed Co., Ltd. A Tokyo showroom (JFC) opened in September 1967, and mattress production began in March 1968 with the completion of the first phase of the Yachiyo factory; the second and third phases followed in 1969 and 1970. The 1970s brought further group companies and distribution centers, including Dream Bed Industrial Co., Ltd. (1970), Dream Chemical Co., Ltd. (1972), Dream Research Institute Co., Ltd. (1973), and distribution centers in Fukuoka and Yokohama (1973–1974). International licensing became a defining part of the business. In September 1975 Dreambed signed an exclusive Japanese license with RUF-BETT of West Germany; the relationship ended in August 1998 but was re-signed in August 2007. In December 1978 it signed an exclusive Japanese license with Serta of the United States, and in May 1981 with Ligne Roset of France. Other partnerships followed, including Dico and Jongepiering of the Netherlands (1978), Otto of Germany (1979), and Gauche of France (1980). In 1991 the company partnered with Land and Sky of the United States for waterbeds, and in 1995 the WATER WORLD service mark was approved. The first showroom opened in Nishi-ku, Hiroshima in August 1983. In the 2000s the group consolidated. In December 2002 Dream Furniture, Dream Chemical, Dream Research Institute and Asahi Sangyo were absorbed by merger, and in April 2003 H-B Dreambed, Dream Tokuhan, Dream Lease, Takasu Reien Hanbai and Sanrei Kosan were absorbed, integrating the group under Dreambed Co., Ltd. Showrooms continued to expand, including Ligne Roset Kyoto (2001), Kobe (2002), Aoyama and Kofu (2003), Toyokawa (2005), Tokyo/Roppongi (2007), Osaka/Shinsaibashi (2008), Ikebukuro (2014), Ginza (2018), Shinjuku (2019) and Fukuoka (2021). The company marked its 70th anniversary in October 2020. In June 2021 it listed on the Second Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, moving to the Standard Market on April 4, 2022. In December 2023 it opened a Tokyo branch office. In November 2024 it signed a license agreement with the U.S. mattress brand King Koil, announced in June 2025, and in April 2026 it announced the opening of the Ligne Roset Umeda store for May 22, 2026.
