Overview

DTK Deutsche Telekabel GmbH (DTK), later Martens Deutsche Telekabel GmbH (MDTK), was an independent German cable network operator. It built and operated multimedia broadband cable systems and supplied households in its footprint with digital television and radio, fast internet, telephony and mobile offerings. According to its own statements, MDTK was one of the largest independent nationwide cable network operators in Germany and at its peak served around 270,000 households. From 4 October 2017, MDTK marketed its products under the newly created umbrella brand Pÿur. The company's roots go back to 1976, when the cable network operators AKF-Antennenbau und Kabelfernsehen GmbH Frankfurt am Main and Telekabel Kabelservice GmbH Bad Homburg merged to form AKF-Telekabel GmbH. Its core business was the operation of cable systems. In 2003 the Gehag GmbH — today Deutsche Wohnen AG — acquired AKF-Telekabel GmbH, which then operated nationwide as AKF-Telekabel TV- und Datennetze GmbH with a realigned core business. In 2008 Versatel AG bought the company, which was renamed Versatel Telekabel GmbH. Since October 2010 it traded as DTK Deutsche Telekabel GmbH after being acquired by the international investor Chequers Capital and the management team, who together founded ACN Telekabel Holding GmbH as its parent. In June 2011 ACN Telekabel Holding GmbH acquired the Hamburg cable network business Martens from EWE TEL GmbH, expanding the DTK group into northern Germany. On 5 September 2011 the company was renamed Martens Deutsche Telekabel (MDTK) and its headquarters moved to Hamburg. In March 2014 MDTK was taken over by the Leipzig cable network operator PrimaCom; by mid-September 2014 the Primacom product portfolio was fully adopted and the website was aligned with Primacom's corporate identity. The brand name 'deutschetelekabel' served for a time as a separate B2B brand for housing-industry customers. In mid-2015 PrimaCom (and thus MDTK) was acquired by competitor Tele Columbus. Since 4 October 2017 Primacom and MDTK marketed internet, telephony and TV products under the new umbrella brand Pÿur. As part of parent company Tele Columbus' One Company strategy, Martens Deutsche Telekabel was merged into PrimaCom Holding GmbH on 10 October 2024; B2B and B2C contracts were transferred to PYUR Sales & Service GmbH, and the merged entity was deleted from the commercial register on 12 December 2024. Existing contracts and the supply of internet, telephony and TV services were seamlessly taken over by PYUR Sales & Service GmbH.

History

The history of DTK Deutsche Telekabel begins in 1976 with the merger of two cable network operators: AKF-Antennenbau und Kabelfernsehen GmbH Frankfurt am Main and Telekabel Kabelservice GmbH Bad Homburg. The resulting company, AKF-Telekabel GmbH, focused on operating cable systems. In 2003 the Gehag GmbH — today Deutsche Wohnen AG — acquired AKF-Telekabel GmbH, which then operated nationwide as AKF-Telekabel TV- und Datennetze GmbH with a realigned core business. This gave the later DTK its roots in the housing industry. In 2008 Versatel AG bought AKF-Telekabel TV- und Datennetze GmbH, which was renamed Versatel Telekabel GmbH. In October 2010 the company became DTK Deutsche Telekabel GmbH after being acquired by the international investor Chequers Capital and the management team. Together they founded ACN Telekabel Holding GmbH as the parent company of DTK Deutsche Telekabel GmbH. In June 2011 ACN Telekabel Holding GmbH acquired the Hamburg cable network business Martens from EWE TEL GmbH. This transaction allowed the DTK group to expand its business into northern Germany. On 5 September 2011 Deutsche Telekabel was renamed Martens Deutsche Telekabel (MDTK) and its headquarters moved to Hamburg. In March 2014 MDTK was taken over by the Leipzig cable network operator PrimaCom. By mid-September 2014 the Primacom product portfolio was fully adopted and the website was aligned with Primacom's corporate identity. The brand name 'deutschetelekabel' of the Primacom group served for a time as a separate B2B brand for housing-industry customers. In mid-2015 PrimaCom — and with it MDTK — was acquired by competitor Tele Columbus. Since 4 October 2017 Primacom and MDTK marketed internet, telephony and TV products under the newly created umbrella brand Pÿur. As part of parent company Tele Columbus' One Company strategy, Martens Deutsche Telekabel was merged with PrimaCom Holding GmbH on 10 October 2024. B2B and B2C contracts were transferred to PYUR Sales & Service GmbH, and the merged entity was subsequently deleted from the commercial register on 12 December 2024. For customers, the integration into PYUR Sales & Service GmbH had no impact: existing contracts and the supply of internet, telephony and TV services were seamlessly taken over by PYUR Sales & Service GmbH, and internet, telephony and TV products could continue to be ordered as before.
