History

DUMONT Reise is a traditional German travel publisher based in Ostfildern near Stuttgart, part of MAIRDUMONT, the largest German travel media company. Founded in 1968 within the Cologne DuMont Buchverlag, it offers one of the most extensive travel book programs in the German-speaking region, with over 680 available titles, 9 series, and more than 260 authors. The history of the publishing house begins in 1956 with the founding of DuMont Buchverlag by Ernst Brücher with a focus on art books. In 1968, the publishing house expanded its program to include travel guides. With the art travel guide 'Die Götterburgen Mexikos' by Hans Helfritz, the publishing house achieved a successful debut in the travel guide market. In 1973, the trendy individual travel guide 'Richtig Reisen' (today: DUMONT Reise-Handbuch) marked the beginning of the independent DuMont Reiseverlag.
