Overview

Duttenhofer GmbH & Co. KG is a German trading and distribution group headquartered in Würzburg, Bavaria. It was founded in 1904 as a small photography shop in Würzburg's city centre and evolved over more than a century into a mid-sized family-owned group specialising in the distribution of technical consumer goods. The group describes itself as a medium-sized corporate group with around 300 employees and annual revenue of more than €250 million, combining long-standing experience with innovative ideas to develop tailored solutions for manufacturers and customers in Germany and Europe. The company's modern identity is built on mail order and e-commerce. In the early 1970s Duttenhofer began mail-order operations, launching both the Duttenhofer wholesale business (DGH) and a consumer mail-order arm known as Würzburger Fotoversand (WFV). With the rise of the internet, the consumer photo-mail-order business was rebranded as Technikdirekt.de. In 2005 the group sold its Würzburg Domstraße photo shop to the Metro Group; the location subsequently became a Media Markt. Since then the Duttenhofer Group has focused exclusively on mail order and e-commerce, serving both business (B2B) and consumer (B2C) customers. Under the umbrella of the Duttenhofer Unternehmensgruppe, the group today brings together seven mail-order companies active in wholesale and retail as well as a specialist retail cooperation with more than 460 partners. The parent company of the group is Duttenhofer Verwaltung GmbH, which is also the personally liable partner of the operating Duttenhofer GmbH & Co. KG. The group operates through fully consolidated domestic subsidiaries, all based in Würzburg, and an Italian subsidiary, with branch offices in Italy, Spain and the Netherlands. Selected subsidiaries include Duttenhofer GmbH & Co. KG itself, which operates the DGH wholesale branch as a full-range wholesaler for photo and consumer electronics and the Technikdirekt branch running online shops for consumers and commercial customers, and DexxIT GmbH & Co. KG, a specialist distributor for digital imaging and consumer electronics. Duttenhofer remains a family business. The current managing partner is Rolf Duttenhofer, who leads the group in the third generation together with Marcel Tully. The corporate culture emphasises customer and quality orientation, investment in qualified employees, and high consulting quality. The group positions itself as a flexible, adaptable trading company that sees market change as an opportunity to continuously develop its services and achieve sustainable growth.

History

Duttenhofer GmbH & Co. KG was founded in 1904 as a small photography shop in the city centre of Würzburg, Germany. For much of the 20th century it operated as a local photo retailer. In the early 1970s the company entered the mail-order business, a strategic shift that would define its future. Two operations were launched: Duttenhofer Großhandel (DGH), a wholesale arm, and Würzburger Fotoversand (WFV), a mail-order business serving end consumers. As the internet era began, the consumer photo mail-order operation was renamed Technikdirekt.de, reflecting a broader product range that extended beyond photography into consumer electronics, computers, telecommunications and electrical household products. In 2005 the group sold its photo shop on Würzburg's Domstraße to the Metro Group; the site later became a Media Markt. Following this divestment, the Duttenhofer Group concentrated entirely on mail order and e-commerce, operating in both B2B and B2C segments. Over the following years the group expanded its corporate structure. The parent company Duttenhofer Verwaltung GmbH serves as the personally liable partner of the operating Duttenhofer GmbH & Co. KG. The group now comprises eight fully consolidated domestic subsidiaries, all headquartered in Würzburg, and one Italian subsidiary, with branch offices in Italy, Spain and the Netherlands. Selected subsidiaries include Duttenhofer GmbH & Co. KG, whose DGH branch operates as a full-range wholesaler for photo and consumer electronics and whose Technikdirekt branch runs online shops for consumers and commercial customers, and DexxIT GmbH & Co. KG, a specialist distributor for digital imaging and consumer electronics. The company remains a family business, now led in the third generation by managing partner Rolf Duttenhofer together with Marcel Tully. The group reports revenue of more than €250 million and approximately 300 employees, and describes its success as based on flexibility, customer and quality orientation, and continuous investment in qualified staff.
