Overview

Dvorets Kultury Akademiya (House of Culture "Akademiya") is a cultural institution and former cinema located at 4 Ilyicha Street in the Akademgorodok district of Novosibirsk, Russia. The building was constructed in 1962 as the "Moskva" cinema with a designed capacity of 801 seats. On 21 December 1962, a decision was made to change its status to a House of Culture under the new name DK "Akademiya". The venue currently has a hall seating 656 spectators. The square in front of the house of culture hosts public festivities, concerts, and other community events. Throughout its history, DK "Akademiya" has been a hub for amateur creative groups and clubs. Five of its collectives have been awarded the title "People's Collective". These include a Slavic spiritual choir (founded in 1993, choirmaster Galina Anatolyevna Noskova), academic women's and men's choirs, a symphony orchestra under the direction of Sinitsky (founded in 1963), an orchestra of folk instruments under the direction of Boris Andreyevich Shvetsov (founded in 1963), a youth flute ensemble, a youth dance club, a veterans' club, a disabled persons' club, the song club "Svetelka", and the women's club "Sovest". In the 1970s and 1980s, the amateur orchestra at DK "Akademiya" actively involved the renowned Russian innovative educator Alexei Ivanovich Borozdin. The venue has hosted numerous notable events and artists. These include a meeting with Honored Artist of the RSFSR Yuri Levitan on 25 June 1965; the first Novosibirsk Festival of Jazz and Pop Music on 4 December 1965; tours of the Moscow State University student theater under M. Rozovsky in 1966; tours of the Theater of Miniatures in 1966; a performance by A. Goncharov with the program "Zhuravli" on 6 April 1967; a performance by the Moscow State University quartet on 15 April 1967; a concert by Alla Ioshpe on 3 July 1967; and in March 1968, a night concert of the bard festival featuring Alexander Galich. Many famous artists have visited "Akademiya", including Oleg Dal, Alexander Galich, Vladimir Vysotsky, Andrei Tarkovsky, Rolan Bykov, and Tatyana Doronina. Outstanding Novosibirsk scientists such as M. A. Lavrentyev, A. I. Maltsev, V. V. Voevodsky, A. G. Aganbegyan, and S. S. Kutateladze also spoke from its stage. In October 2006, an open competition was announced in the newspaper "Sovetskaya Sibir" for the right to conclude a lease agreement for non-residential premises on the balance sheet of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SB RAS) at 4 Ilyicha Street. In 2010, the Presidium of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences adopted a resolution to transfer the building of DK "Akademiya" to municipal ownership. It is expected that the cultural and educational activities of DK "Akademiya" will be preserved: amateur art groups, interest clubs, amateur associations, and physical culture and health groups will continue their work; cultural and mass events will continue to be held. Plans include organizing a demonstration hall for an art gallery; holding reviews, festivals, competitions, concerts, evenings, performances, balls, literary and musical evenings, as well as fairs and exhibitions-sales of folk crafts; and the production and rental of stage costumes, props, and rental of sound and lighting equipment.

History

The building of DK "Akademiya" was constructed in 1962 as the "Moskva" cinema, with a designed auditorium capacity of 801 seats. It was initially on the balance sheet of the Regional Directorate of Glavkinoprokata as the "Moskva" cinema, but at the request of the trade union, it was transferred to the Siberian Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. On 21 December 1962, a decision was made to change its status to a House of Culture with the new name DK "Akademiya". It operated as both a cinema and a house of culture. Under DK "Akademiya", amateur collectives and clubs were created, five of which have the title "People's Collective". These include a Slavic spiritual choir (created in 1993, choirmaster Galina Anatolyevna Noskova), academic women's and men's choirs, a symphony orchestra under the direction of Sinitsky (created in 1963), an orchestra of folk instruments under the direction of Boris Andreyevich Shvetsov (founded in 1963), a youth flute ensemble, a youth dance club, a veterans' club, a disabled persons' club, the song club "Svetelka", and the women's club "Sovest".
