DYWIDAG describes itself as a globally operating technology group whose mission is to make structures safer, stronger, and smarter. Founded in 1865 by Eugen Dyckerhoff and Gottlieb Widmann as a small German cement workshop, the company grew into a construction firm specializing in bridges, and in 1903 carried out steel reinforcement of a railway bridge in Germany using the technology that led to the DYWIDAG Threadbar™. In the 1970s it created its geotechnical segment internationally. DYWIDAG states that it was founded in 1865 by Eugen Dyckerhoff and Gottlieb Widmann, who were father-in-law and stepson, as a small cement workshop in Germany. In the 1880s the workshop became a construction company specializing in bridges. In 1903, as its R&D activity grew, Dyckerhoff and Widmann carried out the steel reinforcement of a railway bridge in Germany using the technology that is at the origin of the DYWIDAG Threadbar™. In the 1970s, following strong global population growth and the need for increasingly solid foundations, the company created its geotechnical segment internationally. The company states it has been trusted for over 150 years and continues to shape the world's infrastructure, from bridges and tunnels to dams and skyscrapers.
