Overview
E. Schiller Fleisch is a German family-owned meat processing company based in Hof, Bavaria. Its origins trace back to 1889, when Karl Schiller founded a butcher's shop (Metzgerei Schiller) that quickly earned a strong reputation for craftsmanship. Over four generations the family expanded the business from a local butcher's shop into a modern meat processing operation. In 1976, under the third generation, the family built a technologically advanced production facility for fine sausages and ham specialties. The company is known as a co-founder of self-service (SB) meat products in the German food retail sector, and today it supplies retail organizations and food industry customers with a broad range of meat and sausage products. It operates its own logistics with sophisticated cooling technology and holds IFS certification at the "Higher Level" for many years. The company emphasizes regional sourcing, transparency, sustainability, and family tradition. It remains a private, family-run enterprise.
History
The history of E. Schiller Fleisch begins in 1889, when Karl Schiller founded the Metzgerei Schiller, a butcher's shop that quickly developed into a respected craft business with an excellent reputation. In the second generation, Karl's son Albert and his wife Auguste continued the business. With their sons Karl and Erwin, the third generation joined the family tradition. They opened several branches and in 1976 built a technologically modern production facility for fine sausage and ham specialties. Karl, together with his wife Irma, son Albert, and daughters Andrea and Sandra, successfully led the Fleischwarenfabrik Albert Schiller KG. The family business operated several butcher shops, supplied retail organizations, and became known well beyond Germany's borders. In 1989, the succession was arranged between the two brothers Karl and Erwin. In brotherly agreement, Erwin, together with his wife Silvia and daughter Barbara, founded the livestock trading agency "Schiller Vieh + Fleisch". This emerged from the livestock trading company Fischer, which was sold for reasons of age. German reunification and the opening of borders created new sales markets and customer groups. With significant investment in the new markets and great commitment, Schiller became successful there as well. The company developed into a meat cutting operation. In the 1990s, advancing EEC requirements led to the construction of a new slaughterhouse in Hof. The company continued to grow and modernize, maintaining its craft roots while embracing innovation. Today, E. Schiller Fleisch is known as a co-founder of self-service (SB) meat products and a growth and quality driver in this segment. It operates its own logistics with sophisticated cooling technology and holds IFS certification at the "Higher Level". The company remains a family business, now led by later generations, and continues to emphasize regional sourcing, transparency, and sustainability.
