Eastfield Mall 16

Eastfield Mall 16 was a multiplex movie theater located in Springfield, Massachusetts, United States, inside the Eastfield Mall shopping center. It operated as part of the Cinemark Theatres circuit, the exhibition brand of Cinemark Holdings, Inc., one of the largest movie theater chains in the world. As a Cinemark venue, the theater would have offered first-run Hollywood films, reserved and general seating, concessions, and the standard Cinemark customer programs such as the Cinemark Movie Club loyalty subscription and gift card options. Its name reflects the 16-screen format typical of American mall-based multiplexes built or rebranded in the 1990s and 2000s. The theater's public identity is closely tied to its host property, the Eastfield Mall, a regional shopping center on Boston Road in Springfield. Like many mall-anchored cinemas, Eastfield Mall 16 functioned as an entertainment anchor drawing foot traffic to the surrounding retail. Cinemark's corporate website describes the chain's broader footprint, including international operations across 13 countries and 205 theatres, and promotes advertising and sponsorship opportunities across its theatre and lobby screens. Eastfield Mall 16 represented the domestic, single-location expression of that larger circuit. As with many older mall multiplexes in the United States, the theater eventually ceased operations; the Eastfield Mall itself closed in the early 2020s and was slated for redevelopment, ending the cinema's tenancy. Because the venue is a specific location rather than a standalone consumer brand, its documentation is limited to directory and database entries such as Wikidata, which identifies it simply as a movie theater in Springfield, Massachusetts. The Cinemark corporate brand remains active and publicly traded, but the Eastfield Mall 16 location is no longer in operation.

As a mall-anchored multiplex, Eastfield Mall 16 fit the classic American model in which a cinema serves as an entertainment anchor for a regional shopping center. The Eastfield Mall, situated on Boston Road in Springfield, hosted the theater as one of its draws. The cinema's 16-screen format indicates a large multiplex typical of the era when mall cinemas expanded screen counts to offer a wide slate of first-run films simultaneously. The theater's later history is tied to the decline and closure of the Eastfield Mall itself. The mall shut down in the early 2020s and was slated for redevelopment, which ended the cinema's presence at the site. Because Eastfield Mall 16 was a specific location rather than a distinct consumer brand, detailed corporate records about it are scarce; most references are directory or database entries. The parent Cinemark brand, by contrast, remains an active, publicly traded company, but the Eastfield Mall 16 location is no longer operating.
