Eco By Sonya is an Australian organic and clean beauty brand offering skincare, body care, makeup and tanning products. Its official site describes the brand as 'Luxury Organic & Clean Skincare, Makeup & Tanning' and states products are 'Organic Australian Vegan Cruelty Free All Natural No Nasties'. The brand's About page recounts that founder Sonya began research and development from her kitchen, after her sister was diagnosed with a melanoma and asked about a natural spray tan.

According to the brand's About page, founder Sonya was a wife, mother and international flight attendant in 2009 when her life changed; she later volunteered in East Timor, which shifted her mindset. Around the same time, her younger sister was diagnosed with a melanoma on her arm that required removal, leaving a scar. Her sister asked if she knew of a natural spray tan that would not be harmful on her skin. After asking a local beauty therapist who said hers were 99% natural, Sonya researched and was surprised, then used her anger at false and misleading claims and her love of natural and organic ingredients to start her own brand. Her research and development began from her tiny kitchen, buying samples of natural and organic things, lab equipment from eBay, and joining chemist forums to teach herself to be a chemist.
