History
Ecorobotix states that it was founded in 2011 and describes itself as an innovation-first company transforming modern agriculture with intelligent precision ag technology. The company's own account of its origins says it was founded in 2014 by Steve Tanner and Aurélien Demaurex, who combined expertise in farming and robotics to revolutionize weed management through artificial intelligence. It began with prototyping and secured funding from the Foundation for Technological Innovation, then hired initial employees and developed further prototypes by 2015 with support from private investors and research projects with EPFL and HE-Arc. From 2016 to 2018 the D-ARM prototype was developed and tested; the company reports CHF 3 million in funding and exceeding CHF 10 million in 2018. In June 2019 it achieved B-Corp Certification with the D-ARM robot. In 2020 it introduced its autonomous robot AVO, with trials across Europe involving a dozen robots. In 2021 it launched ARA, described as a tracted ultra-high precision crop sprayer.
