EDELRID is a manufacturer of climbing ropes, mountaineering equipment and work safety equipment. Its official history states that the founding date was June 1863, when 'Schachenmayer & Cie', a braid and cord factory, was registered in Isny; the company has manufactured climbing ropes and mountaineering equipment in Isny im Allgäu for 160 years. Today it describes itself as a global manufacturer of climbing ropes, mountaineering and work safety equipment, producing its complete portfolio of mountain sports ropes, static ropes, accessory cords and lines in the Allgäu region. Its product range includes climbing helmets, rope protection, climbing ropes and climbing harnesses, and it also works with the climbing brand Red Chili.

EDELRID's official history states that the founding date was June 1863, when 'Schachenmayer & Cie', a braid and cord factory, was registered in Isny. In the early days, Schachenmayer & Cie manufactured only strands and cords. In 1874, Edelmann & Ridder purchased the company with its eight factory buildings for 20,000 guilders. In 1880, EDELRID launched its first braided fishing lines in Berlin. In 1899, Carl Ridder retired and passed the company down to his son Clemens Ridder. The company experienced continuous ups and downs: at one moment the development of the kernmantle rope caused a revolution in mountaineering, only a few years later almost the entire production was destroyed in a major fire. In the 1970s, the seat climbing harness developed by EDELRID paved new paths in the climbing world, only a few years later a second fire ravaged the company building. EDELRID states that it has manufactured climbing ropes and mountaineering equipment in Isny im Allgäu for 160 years, and today describes itself as a global manufacturer of climbing ropes, mountaineering and work safety equipment.
