Edelweißbrauerei Farny

Edelweißbrauerei Farny is a brewery based in Dürren in the Allgäu region of Germany. It traces its brewing tradition to 1833, when Konrad Kugel received a concession to establish a brewery. In 1856 the brewery and Hofgut Dürren passed to the Farny family through marriage. The brewery states it is the inventor of Kristall-Weizen, first brewed in 1924, and describes itself as the regional market leader for wheat beers around Lake Constance, Upper Swabia and the West Allgäu. Its beers are available in over 500 hospitality businesses and over 350 sales outlets in southern Germany. The company also operates a distillery producing spirits such as Falken Whisky, Alpen-GIN, Bierbrand and Alpenglüher.

In 1833 Konrad Kugel received a concession from the Royal Württemberg government to establish a brewery at Hofgut Dürren, located by the Argen river between Wangen im Allgäu and Kißlegg. In 1856 Eustach and Bibiane Farny (née Kugel) purchased the brewery and the Hofgut from their parents and siblings, bringing it into the Farny family. Oskar Farny, the third in the Farny line and later a minister and Dr. h.c., took over the Hofgut and brewery with his wife Elisabeth in 1919. In 1924 the brewery produced Kristall-Weizen for the first time, and it describes itself as the proud inventor of this beer specialty. In 1983, the year of his death, Oskar Farny founded the charitable Oskar and Elisabeth Farny Foundation. The brewery states it has over 175 years of brewing tradition and today produces about 20 million bottles of beer per year with modern facilities, offering 12 beer varieties.
