Overview
Editorial Meteora was a Catalan publishing house founded in Barcelona in 2000 by the philologists Maria Dolors Sàrries and Jordi Fernando, who came respectively from the worlds of teaching and the graphic arts. It presented itself to the reading public on 30 November 2000 with three collections: an illustrated-biography series, "Vides i llegats", and two novel series, "Papers de Fortuna" in Catalan and "Tahona de letras" in Spanish. Its first book was Lola Anglada o la creació del paradís propi, an essay by the art historian and critic Montserrat Castillo on the Catalan illustrator and storyteller Lola Anglada. Over the following two and a half decades Meteora built a catalogue of roughly 220 titles by up to 140 authors, spanning contemporary Catalan and Spanish fiction, poetry, biography, art, non-fiction and children's literature. Its collections included "Cronos" (non-fiction), "Mitilene" (poetry), "Vides i llegats" (biography), "La roda de Faistos" (art), "Lola Anglada" (children's), "Cíclades" (choral narrative and poetry), "Fora de Col·lecció" (outside the collections), "Portàtil Meteora" (pocket books) and "Fortuna Negra" (crime fiction). It also published works on complementary medicine, artistic photography books and gastronomic and cultural guides. From the second half of 2009 it made its titles available as e-books through the usual digital-book portals. Among the authors it published were Joan Elies Adell, Anna Aguilar-Amat, Víctor Alexandre, Pilar Aymerich, Sara Bailac, Agustí Bartra, Mònica Batet, Sebastià Bennassar, Teresa Broseta, Àngel-O. Brunet, Esperança Camps, Llorenç Capellà, Antònia Carré-Pons, Antoni Clapés, Teresa Costa-Gramunt, Ricard Creus, Carles Duarte, Pau Faner, Ernest Farrés, Empar Fernández, Jaume Ferran, Feliu Formosa, Gemma Freixas, Jaume Fuster, Patrícia Gabancho, Gemma Gorga, Isidre Grau, Àngels Gregori, Gabriel Jackson, Teresa Juvé, Jordi Llavina, Nèstor Luján, Jordi de Manuel, Sònia Moya, Gabriel Pernau, Joan Perucho, Marta Pessarrodona, Agustí Pons, Josep Puigbó, Susanna Rafart, Antoni Real, Maria Carme Roca, David H. Rosenthal, Albert Salvadó, Ricard Salvat, Màrius Sampere, Joan Santanach, Francesc Santolaria, Isabel Segura, Jordi Valls, Antoni Vidal, Ester Xargay and Olga Xirinacs. Meteora published its last book, Morts al peu del Reial Alcàsser by Teresa Juvé, on 31 January 2022. The publishing house completely ceased its activities in March 2025, 25 years after its creation. Its website continued to present its catalogue, news, authors, reading group and distribution information, and its reading group, based at Llibreria Documenta in Barcelona, remained active in the period covered by the site.
