Overview

Editoriale Bresciana S.p.A. is an Italian multimedia publishing company headquartered in Brescia. It is the publisher of the Giornale di Brescia, the city's historic daily newspaper, and has grown into a diversified local media group spanning print, digital, radio, television and advertising sales. The group describes itself as the leader in information and communication in Brescia and its province, and by size, structure and results it ranks among the larger national players in the local-information sector. The company traces its origins to the post-war period, when it was established as the publishing company of the Giornale di Brescia, the first newspaper of the Comitato di Liberazione Nazionale. The paper's stated mission has been to defend the values of freedom and democracy, to foster civil, cultural and economic progress, and to draw on the Christian values of the Brescian community. Over the decades the group expanded beyond print into radio, television, advertising and the internet. Today the Giornale di Brescia forms the core of the multimedia group, supported by the website giornaledibrescia.it, the commercial radio station Radio Bresciasette, the classical-music station Radio Classica Bresciana, and a digital television network comprising Teletutto, TT2 - TeleTutto and the all-news channel TT24. The group also includes the advertising sales house Numerica, which serves as local advertising concessionaire and internal service provider. In 2000 the group launched a new printing centre at Erbusco (Brescia) through the affiliated company CSQ Spa. Control of the share capital belongs to the Fondazione Tovini and the Fondazione Folonari, with other shares held by Brescian entrepreneurial families and publishing houses. The Fondazione Tovini owns more than 90% of Gold Line of Rome, which in turn holds more than 70% of the shares of Editoriale Bresciana S.p.A. The group remains privately held and is not listed on a stock exchange.

History

Editoriale Bresciana S.p.A. was founded in the post-war period as the publishing company of the Giornale di Brescia, the first newspaper of the Comitato di Liberazione Nazionale. On 15 January 1947, an agreement signed between Vittorio Valletta, managing director of Fiat, the Honourable Lodovico Montini and the President of the Council Alcide De Gasperi decided the privatisation of the publishing company of the Giornale di Brescia. The Banca San Paolo di Brescia and the Credito Agrario Bresciano, together with some private individuals, acquired the shares of the new company and appointed Professor Rizzardo Secchi, a doctor and father of Tita, as president. On 28 May 1948 he was succeeded by Antonio Folonari. In the 1970s the group founded Radio Classica Bresciana. In the 1990s the group expanded by acquiring Radio Bresciasette, Teletutto and Brescia Telenord, and by founding Numerica, the group's advertising concessionaire, and BresciaOnLine, a web portal that became a reference point for Brescian internet users. The arrival of digital technology in television led to a new structure for the television network, with the establishment of the all-news channel TT24 and the replacement of Brescia Telenord by TT2 - TeleTutto. In 2012, GdB digital, the digital edition of the Giornale di Brescia, was launched. In 2000 the group started a new printing centre built at Erbusco (Brescia) through the affiliated company CSQ Spa. The group has continued to operate as a multimedia publisher, combining the historic daily newspaper with radio, television, digital and advertising activities, and remains controlled by the Fondazione Tovini and the Fondazione Folonari.
