History

Edizioni Centro Studi Erickson was founded in 1984 in Trento by psychologists Dario Ianes and Fabio Folgheraiter. The name honours Milton Erickson, a renowned 20th-century psychotherapist and hypnotherapist who lived with a significant disability. The founding was motivated by the Italian law 517 of 1977, which established the right to education in common classes for all persons with disabilities, and later law 104 of 1992. The centre was created to conduct research, organise training courses and publish materials on these themes. The first book, 'La valutazione iniziale delle abilità dell'handicappato' by Dario Ianes, was published in 1985, along with the first journal 'Insegnare all'handicappato' and the first multimedia product 'TIC-TAC imparo a leggere… l'orologio'. In 1994, 'Risolvere problemi per immagini' by Camillo Bortolato introduced the Metodo Analogico Bortolato. In 1997, the first edition of the conference 'La Qualità dell'inclusione scolastica e sociale' was held in Riva del Garda. In 1998, Erickson participated for the first time in the Salone del Libro di Torino. In 1999, 'L'educazione razionale-emotiva' became the first Erickson book sold abroad. In 2001, the 'La Qualità' conference moved to Rimini. In 2005, the first 'Linea del 20' was released, a key tool of the Metodo Analogico Bortolato. In 2007, 'PEI online' became the first digital service sold. In 2008, the 'Autismi' conference was launched. In 2017, the publisher won the BELMA award for the first time and continued to win in subsequent years. In 2021, Erickson acquired the publishing house Il Margine, which became its imprint for popular non-fiction and fiction. By 2024, the catalogue included 200 works translated into 28 languages in 40 countries. The company has about 120 employees and a turnover of nearly 20 million euros, placing it among the top 25 Italian publishers. It also operates bookshops in Trento and Rome (the latter opened in 2018).
