EDP Sciences

EDP Sciences is an international academic publisher founded by learned societies in 1920. It publishes high-quality scientific journals, conference proceedings, books and magazines in a broad range of scientific, technical and medical disciplines, and describes itself as serving science and scientists and supporting open science. Since November 2019 it has been owned by Science Press, which is itself majority-owned by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is guided by a Scientific Advisory Committee composed of scientists and members of the scientific community.

EDP Sciences was established in 1920 by a prestigious academic community of French learned societies seeking to inspire, innovate and inform others by sharing their knowledge. Members of this community included eminent scientists like Marie Curie, Paul Langevin and Louis de Broglie. It was founded under the name La Société du Journal de Physique et Le Radium to resume publishing Journal de Physique (originally established in 1872) following its merger with the journal Le Radium (originally established in 1904). In the 1980s it expanded its publishing programme to include astrophysics and started publishing books including Monographies de Physique. In 1997 it began publishing in other scientific disciplines beyond physics and astrophysics. On 13th November 2019 the sale of EDP Sciences to China Science Publishing & Media Ltd. (Science Press) was finalised; earlier that year, EDP Sciences' former co-owners, Société Française de Physique, Société Chimique de France, Société Française d'Optique and Société de Mathématiques Appliquées et Industrielles, decided to sell their interests in EDP Sciences to Science Press. Since November 2019, EDP Sciences is owned by Science Press, which is itself majority-owned by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).
