Overview
EDUin, o.p.s. is a Czech non-profit organisation based in Prague, founded in 2010 by Tomáš Feřtek, Zdeněk Slejška and Lucie Slejšková. It specialises in the analysis and communication of education policy, monitoring how the Czech state governs education, informing both expert and general audiences, and supporting school founders. Its work rests on three pillars: watching how the state manages education, informing the professional and lay public, and supporting school founders. The organisation is best known for its weekly analytical newsletter bEDUin, published every week except during school holidays, and for the annual Audit of the Education System (Audit vzdělávacího systému), a comprehensive SWOT-based evaluation of Czech schooling that has been published since 2014. EDUin also systematically tracks the implementation of strategic documents — notably the Strategy for Education Policy of the Czech Republic until 2030+ — as well as legislative changes and budget priorities in education. It opens education topics through press releases, authored commentaries, in-depth interviews and analytical articles published on its website and in the media. Long-term themes include the financing of education and comparison of spending with the OECD average, the introduction of revisions to framework education programmes, pupil assessment, inequalities in education, secondary-school entrance examinations, teacher professional training and the career system for teachers and headmasters, and the competences of school founders. In 2026 EDUin published the 14th set of analyses within the Education System Audit; since 2010 thousands of articles have appeared on eduin.cz, and the number of media outputs reached 1,260 in 2025 (an average of 3.5 per day). Among its active projects are the Lepší škola (Better School) conference for school founders, whose 9th edition is scheduled for 2027, and the Klub zřizovatelů (Club of Founders), a community for sharing good practice and methodological support. Former projects include Rodiče vítáni (Parents Welcome, 2011–2020), a certification programme for schools supporting cooperation with parents, taken over by Wolters Kluwer ČR in 2020; Česko mluví o vzdělávání (2013), a society-wide campaign on the direction of Czech education; Města vzdělávání (2013–2018), focused on improving education quality in regions; Global Teacher Prize Czech Republic (2017–2025), brought to the Czech Republic by EDUin in 2017 and run by GetThePoint from July 2025; and EDUzín (2017–2024), an online magazine on upbringing and education that moved to the Heroine publishing house in 2024. In 2019 the original founders transferred their rights to Livesport s.r.o., which in 2025 transferred them to the Livesport Foundation. Since 1 April 2024 Martina Chvátalová has been executive director and statutory representative; since April 2026 Jan Vöröš Mušuta has been programme director and head of the expert team. The organisation is governed in accordance with its founding charter, with a board of directors, a supervisory board and a director.
History
EDUin, o.p.s. was founded in 2010 in Prague by Tomáš Feřtek, Zdeněk Slejška and Lucie Slejšková as a non-profit organisation dedicated to analysing and communicating Czech education policy. From the outset it positioned itself as an independent watchdog of how the Czech state governs education, combining data, analysis and public communication. In 2011 the organisation launched Rodiče vítáni (Parents Welcome), a certification programme for schools that support cooperation with parents; it ran until 2020, when it was taken over by the publisher Wolters Kluwer ČR. In 2013 EDUin ran Česko mluví o vzdělávání (Czech Republic Talks About Education), a society-wide campaign that opened a debate on the direction of Czech education and produced concrete recommendations communicated with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. Also in 2013 it began Města vzdělávání (Cities of Education), a project focused on improving education quality in the regions; it ran until 2018, and its experience was transferred into the later Klub zřizovatelů. A key milestone came in 2014 with the first edition of the Audit vzdělávacího systému (Audit of the Education System), a comprehensive annual evaluation of Czech schooling through SWOT analysis, covering key trends, events and recommendations for education policy. The audit has been published every year since, reaching its 14th set of analyses in 2026. In 2017 EDUin brought the Global Teacher Prize to the Czech Republic, running the national award for inspiring primary and secondary school teachers until July 2025, when the organisation GetThePoint, z.ú. took it over. Also in 2017 it launched EDUzín, an online magazine about upbringing and education, which in 2024 passed to the Heroine publishing house. In 2019 the original founders transferred their rights to Livesport s.r.o. In 2025 Livesport transferred those rights to the Livesport Foundation (Nadace Livesport), which is now the owner. Since 1 April 2024 Martina Chvátalová has served as executive director and statutory representative, and since April 2026 Jan Vöröš Mušuta has been programme director and head of the expert team. Throughout its existence EDUin has published thousands of articles on eduin.cz since 2010, and its media output reached 1,260 items in 2025 (an average of 3.5 per day). Its current flagship activities include the weekly bEDUin newsletter, the annual Education System Audit, the Lepší škola conference for school founders (9th edition scheduled for 2027) and the Klub zřizovatelů community.
