Overview

EduLab, Inc. is a Japanese education-technology company headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo. It was established in March 2015 through a share transfer that created a holding-company structure over the education measurement business originally founded as Kyōiku Sokutei Kenkyūjo (Japan Institute for Educational Measurement) in 2001. The group traces its roots to Evidus Corporation, founded in 2000 by Junichi Takamura and Hiroshi Matsuda, which merged into the measurement institute in 2002. EduLab's business spans the development of academic-ability measurement technologies and testing methods, the creation, administration, and analysis of aptitude and examination tests, and the provision of educational services and EdTech solutions. It also invests in and develops new businesses in the EdTech field and manages group strategy. The company operates globally with offices in Tokyo, Hiroshima, Bellevue, Boston, Dublin, and Pune. Its subsidiaries include Japan Institute for Educational Measurement (Jiem), EdTech RISE, Success Space, System Support and Consulting, Edutech Lab, Inc. (US), EduLab Capital Management (US), JIEM India, and DoubleYard Europe. EduLab is known for operating Eiken (English proficiency test) test centers and for platforms such as "Eiken Navi" and "Stagia." It has received contracts from Japan's Ministry of Education for national academic achievement surveys and OECD-PISA support work. EduLab listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Mothers market in December 2018 and moved to the First Section in October 2020. However, accounting fraud and false statements in listing and market-change applications led to a re-move to Mothers in February 2022, designation as a special attention stock in April 2022, and a recommendation for an administrative monetary penalty of about ¥237 million by the Securities and Exchange Surveillance Commission in October 2023. The special attention designation was lifted in May 2023. After a capital and business alliance with Zoshinkai Holdings in July 2022, ZE1 became the largest shareholder. The company discontinued its education platform business (including "Eiken Navi!" and "Stagia") as of March 31, 2024. It returned to net profit in the fiscal year ending September 2025 for the first time in five years.

However, due to accounting fraud and false statements in new listing and market change application documents, it was re-moved to Mothers in February 2022.
