Overview
Eisenmann SE is a German industrial plant manufacturer and automotive supplier headquartered in Böblingen. Founded in 1951 by sales engineer Eugen Eisenmann as an engineering office producing wood drying systems, the company grew into a global provider of surface finishing technology, environmental technology, thermal process technology, and material flow automation. Its core business centered on industrial paint shops for the automotive industry, including dip coating, spray booths, paint robots, and conveyor systems. At its peak, Eisenmann operated in eleven countries across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, with customers including Tesla and Lamborghini. About 70 percent of group revenue was generated abroad. In 2002 the company became a stock corporation (Aktiengesellschaft) and in 2014 a European Company (SE). All shares were held by the four children of Sabine Eisenmann, wife of Peter Eisenmann, through the Grubenhaus AG based in the canton of Schwyz, Switzerland. The company filed for insolvency on 29 July 2019 along with several subsidiaries. Following the insolvency, its divisions were sold off: the Automotive and General Finishing units, including name rights, patents, and domain, were acquired by Dutch private equity firm Nimbus via an asset deal, and the new Eisenmann GmbH started in autumn 2020 with 110 employees. The Thermal Solutions division was spun off in January 2020 and taken over by South Korean Onejoon Group, becoming Onejoon Thermal Solutions GmbH. The Conveyor Systems division was acquired by Austrian Pentanova in August 2020 and renamed pentanova cs GmbH. In 2026, Eisenmann became part of Daifuku Co., Ltd. of Japan, which acquired the company to enhance proposal capabilities and expand integrated offerings. Today, Eisenmann continues to develop intelligent technologies and tailor-made solutions for sustainable painting processes, focusing on resource efficiency and long-term value retention of industrial paint shops.
History
Eisenmann was founded in 1951 by sales engineer Eugen Eisenmann as an engineering office with the fabrication of wood drying systems, later also paint shops. In 1960, the company established its conveyor technology division with the first circular conveyor for paint shops. Further investments in the 1960s included the first exhaust air purification system in 1966 and the first powder coating system in 1968. In 1976, Germany's first cathodic dip coating system went into operation in Böblingen. In 1995, the first operator contract for a self-designed paint shop was signed with Seat. In 2002, the company was converted into a stock corporation (Aktiengesellschaft), and in 2014 into a European Company (SE). The system provider in surface technology, environmental technology, thermal process technology, and material flow automation employed 1,450 people in Germany in 2008, 250 internationally, and around 1,100 in operating companies. About 70 percent of group revenue was generated abroad. Customers included Tesla and Lamborghini. On 29 July 2019, the company and several subsidiaries filed for insolvency. Nuremberg lawyer Joachim Exner was appointed preliminary insolvency administrator. The Automotive and General Finishing divisions, including name rights, patents, and domain, were acquired by Dutch private equity firm Nimbus through an asset deal. The new Eisenmann GmbH started in autumn 2020 with 110 employees (2021: €24.0 million revenue, 126 employees). About 650 employees were transferred to a transfer company. Nimbus had already acquired a majority stake in Sturm-Gruppe in Salching in 2019, which is also active in surface technology and conveyor technology. Sturm-Gruppe had held 49% of ASIS GmbH in Landshut since 2009. By contract dated 18 December 2020, Hans-Jürgen Multhammer took over the 49% from Sturm-Gruppe and became sole shareholder of ASIS GmbH. ASIS GmbH holds 27.5% of xtraPart GmbH, which took over other parts of the Eisenmann Group. In March 2021, the new Eisenmann Inc. was founded in Greer, South Carolina. The high-temperature technology division Eisenmann Thermal Solutions, which manufactured firing lines for technical ceramics, heat treatment for aluminum products, sintering systems for powder metals, and furnace systems for carbon fiber production, was spun off as of 15 January 2020 and taken over by South Korean Onejoon Group. The subsidiary continues as Onejoon Thermal Solutions GmbH. 200 employees were taken over. The headquarters is in Bovenden. The Conveyor Systems division, which manufactured conveyor systems for rationalization, automation, and operational organization (electric overhead conveyors, electric pallet conveyors, power-and-free conveyors, pallet conveyors, roller conveyor systems, floor conveyors, container conveyors) with around 70 employees, was acquired by Austrian Pentanova in August 2020 and has since operated as pentanova cs GmbH. In 2015, Rodgau-based Lactec GmbH with 110 employees was acquired and continued as Eisenmann Lactec. The number of employees decreased to 77 by the insolvency. During the proceedings, it fell further to 57, of which 29 were taken over. The business operations were taken over by the newly founded LacTec GmbH. Shareholders of LacTec are xtraPart GmbH as well as Volker Weiß and Ralf Deparade. ASIS had previously acquired 27.5% of xtraPart GmbH. The loss of employees is also due to a company from nearby Heusenstamm succeeding in persuading many employees of a department to switch. A partial area of LacTec GmbH was taken over on 1 June 2022 by Oerter GmbH & Co. KG from Solingen and continued from there. With three Brazilian and one Argentine subsidiary, Eisenmann do Brasil, with 400 employees and locations in Sao Paulo, Resende, Cruzeiro, and Juiz de Fora, was Eisenmann's largest foreign subsidiary. It was taken over by Pentanova but still carries the name. In 2026, Eisenmann became part of Daifuku Co., Ltd. of Japan.
