Overview

Elektro Beckhoff is a family-owned company based in Verl in eastern Westphalia, Germany. It was founded in 1953 by Arnold Beckhoff senior and his wife Elisabeth Beckhoff and is now run by the second and third generation. The company carries out electrotechnical projects for industry, housing, hospitals, hotels and public institutions, offering services including electrical installation, building automation, data network technology, photovoltaics, fire alarm systems, switchgear construction and electromobility.

History

Elektro Beckhoff was founded in 1953 by Arnold Beckhoff senior together with his wife Elisabeth at Ewersweg 66 in Verl-Bornholte. In 1956 a specialist shop was opened on twelve square metres at Kirchplatz; the present-day Möbelzentrale Beckhoff initially operated under the same roof. In 1959 the company moved to Uhlandstraße 2 in Verl, where the private house was converted so that the business could occupy the ground-floor exhibition space. In 1965 the first expansion at the new location took place, enlarging the exhibition space and workshop. In 1970, despite the difficult years of the oil crisis, Arnold and Elisabeth Beckhoff expanded to three floors, providing 1,000 square metres. In 1981 founder Arnold Beckhoff died as a result of illness; Elisabeth Beckhoff handed the company over to her four children Hans, Arno, Marlies and Michael. At that time Beckhoff had 25 employees and generated revenue of 2.5 million marks. In 1989 the Uhlandstraße site was expanded with an office building and warehouse hall. Between 1992 and 1995, after the Wende, Elektro Beckhoff opened its first branch in Grimma near Leipzig, with a new office building and warehouse hall in Grimma's industrial area. In 2005 the company was divided into the firms Automation (Hans Beckhoff), Elektro (Arno Beckhoff), and Technik & Design (Marlies Hillen and Michael Beckhoff).
