Elektrostal chemical-mechanical factory

Elektrostal chemical-mechanical factory (ОАО «ЭХМЗ им. Н.Д. Зелинского») is a Russian enterprise that develops and produces personal and collective protective equipment against toxic substances. It was founded on 28 June 1937 by order of the USSR People's Commissariat for Defence Industry as State Factory No. 395, and it states it was the first in the USSR to produce respiratory protection equipment. Since 5 July 2018 the functions of its sole executive body have been transferred to the management organization ООО «Зелинский групп», which unites leading Russian manufacturers of respiratory protection under the Zelinsky Group brand. The company produces gas masks, filters, respirators and other individual and collective protection means, and supplies across Russia and the CIS.

The Elektrostal chemical-mechanical factory was founded on 28 June 1937, when the USSR People's Commissar for Defence Industry signed an order approving the charter of State Factory No. 395. It was tasked with creating quality items for individual and collective anti-chemical protection. It operated actively during the first five-year plans, was evacuated during the Great Patriotic War, and was restored after the Victory. In 1976 the enterprise received the Order of the Red Banner of Labour for achievements in labour. In 2001 EHMZ and the N.N. Semenov Institute of Chemical Physics joined forces to develop the MOVG-600 catalytic neutralizer. In 2010 the company purchased imported equipment, improved product efficiency, introduced the ISO international quality standard, and employees invented the innovative MP-3 gas mask with a flexible mask. In 2013 the factory was given the name of N.D. Zelinsky (inventor of the gas mask), and the country's only monument to the scientist was installed near the enterprise's administrative building. On 5 July 2018 the functions of the sole executive body of ОАО «ЭХМЗ им. Н.Д. Зелинского» were transferred to the management organization ООО «Зелинский групп», which under the Zelinsky Group brand united leading Russian manufacturers of respiratory protection — AO «Sorbent», AO «Tambovmash» and ОАО «ЭХМЗ им. Н.Д. Зелинского».
