Overview
Eliektraruhavik (Russian: «Электродвигатель», Belarusian: «Электрарухавік») is a Belarusian industrial brand and manufacturing plant based in Mogilev, dedicated to the production of alternating-current asynchronous electric motors. The enterprise traces its origins to a metalworking combine established in 1945, which began serial production of asynchronous motors in 1950. The plant itself was formally organized in 1958 by a resolution of the Communist Party of Belarus and the Council of Ministers of the BSSR. Over the following decades it became one of the largest producers of asynchronous motors in the Soviet Union, registering its «МЭЗ» diamond trademark in 1959 and pioneering unified motor series such as AO, AO2, 4A and, from 1986, the unified AI series. The plant was awarded the Order of Lenin and was renamed in 1972 to honour the 50th anniversary of the USSR. Today the enterprise operates as a branch of the Mogilevliftmash holding, following the liquidation of its separate legal entity status on 28 December 2018. It manufactures a broad range of asynchronous motors from 0.12 kW to 30 kW with shaft heights from 56 to 180 mm, including standard general-industrial motors, explosion-proof models, single-phase motors, built-in motors, motors with electromagnetic brakes, multi-speed motors, traction motors and specialized motors for the oil, gas and mining industries. The product range also includes consumer goods such as electric juicers — produced for over 50 years — and electroacoustic signalling devices, which the plant is the only manufacturer of in the CIS. The brand serves customers in Belarus, other CIS countries and the European Union, with dedicated AIS and AISE series designed to meet CENELEC (DIN) standards for EU supply. Its motors are used in pumps, compressors, fans, lifting and transport equipment, woodworking machinery and chemical production in aggressive environments. The plant employs approximately 1,970 people and continues to develop new products, including traction motors for electric and hybrid vehicles, such as the TAD 155-4-BU1 supplied to Belkommunmash.
History
The enterprise that became the Mogilev Electric Motor Plant was established on the basis of a metalworking combine created by a resolution of the Council of People's Commissars of the BSSR on 28 December 1945. Initially the combine produced construction and furniture hardware and consumer goods. In 1950 it began serial production of asynchronous electric motors of the «Ural» brand. In 1952 it mastered production of the first unified series of AO motors of the 5th frame size in the Soviet Union. The plant itself was formally organized on 30 August 1958 by Resolution No. 629 of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus and the Council of Ministers of the BSSR. In 1958, 1966 and 1973 new production buildings were commissioned. In 1959 the plant began producing electroacoustic signalling devices, which in modernized form and a wide range of versions are still produced today — the only such manufacturer in the CIS. On 16 March 1959 the plant registered its «МЭЗ» diamond trademark, which became well known throughout the CIS. In 1965 the plant came under the Ministry of Electrical Engineering Industry of the USSR and became one of the largest producers of asynchronous motors, a leader in introducing advanced technologies and a base enterprise for quality systems and export products. The second half of the 1960s saw the development of a large range of modifications and special versions based on AO2-3 frame size motors. In 1969 the plant began production of electric juicers, and in 1973 it mastered the SVSP-202 model. The 1970s were marked by the development of 4A series motors with 100 mm shaft height and many modifications, with steadily increasing production volumes. In 1972 the plant was renamed to honour the 50th anniversary of the USSR and was awarded the Order of Lenin. In 1975 it became part of the «Zapelektromash» production association within the «Soyuzelektromash» all-union industrial association. In 1986 it started production of the new unified AI series of motors, later mastering models from 0.12 to 30 kW. From 1992 to 2009 the plant mastered production of various new products. On 28 December 2018 the open joint-stock company was liquidated and the plant became a branch of the Mogilevliftmash holding. In 2019 the plant supplied an electric motor for the first Belarusian-developed electric vehicle. As of recent data, the plant employs 1,970 people and continues to produce a wide range of motors, juicers and electroacoustic devices.
