Overview

Elval (Greek: ΕΛΒΑΛ) is the aluminium rolling division of ElvalHalcor S.A., a leading global aluminium and copper manufacturer. Founded in 1973 by Viohalco, Elval has grown into one of the world's leading aluminium rolling processors and the only producer of flat rolled aluminium products in Greece. The company operates a strong production base across 15 plants and serves customers in more than 90 countries, with a commercial network spanning the globe. Elval designs and manufactures innovative aluminium solutions for a diverse range of markets, including packaging, transportation, automotive, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC&R), building and construction, energy and industrial applications. Its extensive custom-made product portfolio is supported by continuous investments in research, development and innovation, and an in-house Technology Centre. The company emphasizes responsible production and environmental protection, enabling the transition to climate neutrality and contributing to a circular economy through aluminium recycling. As part of ElvalHalcor S.A., which is listed on the Athens Exchange (ELHA:ATH), Elval benefits from the synergies of a larger group with a strong production base and solid market presence. ElvalHalcor itself is majority-owned by Viohalco, a leading Greek industrial group. Elval's history includes strategic acquisitions and partnerships, such as the acquisition of the Bulgarian state-owned Steelmet in 1994 and the sale of a 25% stake in its subsidiary Bridgnorth Aluminium to Japan's Furukawa Sky Aluminium in 2009. Today, Elval continues to strengthen its position in key industries, including defence, where it supplies cutting-edge aluminium solutions for next-generation naval ships, and transportation, as evidenced by its role as aluminium supplier for Baleària's LNG fast ferry "Mercedes Pinto". With approximately 50 years of rolling and recycling expertise, Elval combines advanced technology with a customer-centric approach, tailoring products and services to meet specific customer needs. Its success is built on four pillars: a customer-centric approach, lean manufacturing, continuous technological investment, and a commitment to quality. Through its subsidiaries SYMETAL, ETEM S.A., and Bridgnorth Aluminium, Elval extends its reach into specialized aluminium products, including foils, architectural components, profiles, and lithographic plates.

History

Elval (Greek: ΕΛΒΑΛ, an abbreviation for Elliniki Viomichania Alouminiou A.E., meaning Greek Aluminium Industry S.A.) was founded in 1973 by Viohalco, a major Greek industrial group. The company was established as a producer of aluminium products and quickly became a key player in the Greek metals sector. In 1971, before Elval's founding, ETEM was established, and Elval later took over this company, which specializes in aluminium profiles and lightweight components for the automotive industry, supplying major car manufacturers such as BMW, Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche. In 1994, Elval acquired the Bulgarian state-owned metals company Steelmet, marking a significant expansion into Southeast Europe. This acquisition helped Elval broaden its production footprint and customer base. In 2009, the Japanese company Furukawa Sky Aluminium acquired a 25% stake in Elval's subsidiary Bridgnorth Aluminium, a UK-based producer of lithographic plates. This partnership brought additional expertise and market access. Over the decades, Elval grew into one of the leading aluminium rolling processors worldwide and the only producer of flat rolled aluminium products in Greece. The company operates more than ten production facilities globally and serves customers in over 90 countries. Its product portfolio spans packaging, transportation, automotive, HVAC&R, building and construction, energy, and industrial applications. In 2017, Elval merged with Halcor, the copper division of Viohalco, to form ElvalHalcor S.A., creating a leading global aluminium and copper manufacturer. ElvalHalcor is listed on the Athens Exchange (ticker: ELHA:ATH) and is majority-owned by Viohalco. Elval operates as the aluminium rolling division of ElvalHalcor, with a strong production base across 15 plants and a solid market presence in more than 90 countries. Today, Elval continues to invest in research, development, and innovation, with an in-house Technology Centre focused on advanced aluminium solutions. The company emphasizes sustainability, recycling, and the transition to a circular economy. Its subsidiaries include SYMETAL (foils and architectural components), ETEM S.A. (aluminium profiles and lightweight components), and Bridgnorth Aluminium (lithographic plates in the UK). Elval remains a key supplier to industries such as defence, transportation, and packaging, and is committed to producing cutting-edge aluminium solutions and fostering strong relationships with world-class customers.
