History
Emilia Development (O.f.g) Ltd. was founded in 1952 by Emil Feller as a private company named "General Bonded Warehouses and Refrigeration," engaged in operating bonded warehouses and customs brokerage. According to the official website, the company was founded in 1952 handling bulk transport operations. In 1965 it began collaborating with international chemical companies, and in 1975 it established its first logistics center in Haifa. In 1982, after control of the company was acquired by businessman Shaul Eisenberg, its shares were listed for trading on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange and it became a public company. The company was held by Eisenberg through the investment company "Pryon," which was itself held by Israel Corporation. In April 1991 the company's name was changed to "H.L. Finance and Services." In January 2000, businessman Shmuel Ganz acquired control of the company, and a year later he sold it to Oded Feller. In August 2001 the company changed its name again to its current name, after merging with "M.Tz. Hershko Investments," and since then it has operated as a holding company. In 1997 the company began its first mergers and acquisitions. At the end of 2001 it acquired control of "Plasto-Sak" Kargal and "Mor Plastic Industries," and in 2007 it sold them to Kargal. In 2005 it acquired control of "Adumim Food Supplements," and in 2007 it sold it to Frutarom. In 2009 Perrigo sold its consumer products business (including Neqa) to the Emilia Development group. About two weeks later, in November 2009, Sano, through its subsidiary Cosmopharm, acquired from the Emilia group all "Careline" brands including "Neqa 7." However, the company's plant in Yeruham remained owned by Emilia Development, was renamed "Zohar Cosmetics," and focused on manufacturing private-label cosmetic products for retail chains in the United States. In 2022 the company closed the plant. In December 2015 it acquired control of Mendelson Infrastructure for about 100 million shekels. In July 2018 it acquired control of Overseas Commerce for about 131 million shekels. In 2016 the Mendelson Group was acquired, and in 2017 all companies were merged into one public company, Emilia Group. In 2018 Overseas Commerce was acquired. In 2022 Emilia celebrated its 70th anniversary. In 2023 it acquired Tabib (100%) and launched Depotchem Solutions operations. In 2024-2026 Depotchem expanded through the acquisition of raw materials distribution companies — KOI, Ronly and UNIVERSAL. In 2017 Yossi (Yosef) Shahak was appointed chairman of the board of directors. The company's main offices are located in Haifa. Emilia's activities are conducted through three groups, each responsible for a different activity sector: the industry services sector through the Chemovil group, which provides services and products to industry such as raw material supply, bulk transport, storage, handling of solids and various laboratory services through subsidiaries Chemotal, Depochem, Bactochem, Tabib, the Chemical Laboratory and Derech HaMevdoka; the logistics sector through the Overseas group, which provides "from port to shelf" services by operating bonded and free warehouses in the hinterlands of the Haifa and Ashdod ports and at Ben Gurion Airport through Overseas Commerce, and nationwide transport and distribution services through Overseas Shipping; and the fluid conveyance and metals sector through the Mendelson Infrastructure and Industries group, which engages in the import, distribution and manufacture of a wide range of pipes, valves, fire and air suppression systems, plumbing products, specialty metals for the defense industry and more. Five companies operate under this group: Mendelson, Alexandrovich, Plad, Profilon and Mendelson Quality Metals.
