History

EMKA was founded in 1932 in Velbert, Germany. For decades, it has specialized in the production of locking systems, hinges, and seals for switch and control cabinets. In 1975, Friedhelm Runge became managing partner, marking a significant period of family ownership. Since 1986, after a temporary relocation to Wuppertal, EMKA has produced again in Velbert. In the 2000s, EMKA expanded through acquisitions: in 2000 and 2001, the French companies Fort Sécurité and ROLEZ were acquired. In 2005, the long-standing joint venture in Bosnia and Herzegovina was integrated into the EMKA Group. In 2006, ILS Speth GmbH, comprising the former companies Lenzner, IMK, Speth, and Fedder & Löhr, was incorporated, focusing on machining and zinc die-casting. Aluminium production was sold to GSB Aluminium GmbH in 2016 and reintegrated as EMKA Aluminium GmbH in 2022. In 2008, EMKA Electronic AG was fully integrated as a separate business unit with a development center for hardware and software solutions for data centers, telecommunications, and banks. That same year, EMKA acquired POS, active in commercial vehicles and refrigeration industry fittings. In 2009, DGTH Produktions GmbH and in 2011 Heinrich Strenger GmbH & Co. KG were acquired. In the sealing sector, Happich Profiles in England (2009) and Sealing Systems in Spain (2010) were integrated. Further acquisitions include the stainless steel fine casting foundry AD KRUŠIK in Mionica, Serbia (2015), and the mold maker Bekto Precisa in Goražde, Bosnia and Herzegovina (2018). In 2022, GSB Aluminium was reintegrated as EMKA Aluminium. In 2024, Jan Rehnig became CEO, representing the second generation of family leadership. In 2025, EMKA acquired AlZink Kft. GmbH in Hungary, its first production site there. In 2026, EMKA Brasil was founded in São Paulo, and Logistics Center 2 opened in Reno, USA.
