Overview
Engineering Dobersek GmbH is a German engineering company headquartered in Mönchengladbach, North Rhine-Westphalia. It was founded in 1983 by the married couple Albin and Tatyana Dobersek and describes itself as having been an expert in sustainable and innovative plant engineering solutions for more than 40 years. The company's core business is the design, construction and turnkey supply of plants and plant components, covering the full chain from planning and design through to the implementation of modern technologies and commissioning. Engineering Dobersek organises its activities around several business fields. These include mining, with backfill systems, water management and transport systems; ore processing, covering conveying and crushing, beneficiation and sorting, and dewatering and drying; metallurgy, including pyrometallurgy, hydrometallurgy and precious-metal-bearing sludges; and power plant engineering. The company positions itself as a partner that combines sustainable technologies with economic efficiency and tailors concepts to individual customer requirements. A defining feature of the company is its proprietary process technology. Engineering Dobersek developed a process model for the optimal classification of ore materials ahead of flotation beneficiation, registered as the Conticlass® System. On the basis of the resulting patent, the company installed its first unit in 1993 at the copper concentrator of the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine in Uzbekistan. Further projects followed in Balkhash, Zhezkazgan, Zarafshan, Leninogorsk, Zyryanov, Norilsk, Uchaly, Revda and Gaya, as well as in Mongolia, Bulgaria and North Macedonia. Other patented systems include the BackFill System for backfill complexes and the STR System for roasting the tailings of sorption processes. Beyond Germany, Engineering Dobersek has maintained representative offices in Kazakhstan, Russia, North Macedonia, Serbia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. In 2008 it reconstructed a gold processing plant in Uzbekistan using bio-oxidation technology, and in 2019 it commissioned the world's first STR System unit for the oxidative roasting of gold-bearing raw material at the Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Combine in Uzbekistan. Around the start of the new decade the company acquired a controlling stake in the Kazakh engineering company Kazzinctech Engineering, which was built on the design bureaux of major mining and metallurgical enterprises of eastern Kazakhstan and has more than 80 years of design experience for industrial and civil facilities.
History
Engineering Dobersek GmbH was founded in 1983 in Germany by the married couple Albin and Tatyana Dobersek. From its base in Mönchengladbach, North Rhine-Westphalia, the company built its business around engineering services for the mining, metallurgy, energy and chemical industries. A central early development was a process model for the optimal classification of ore materials ahead of flotation beneficiation. This method was registered as an authorial development under the name Conticlass® System. In 1993, on the basis of the patent obtained, Engineering Dobersek installed its first unit at the copper concentrator of the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine in Uzbekistan. That reference project was followed by further installations in Balkhash, Zhezkazgan, Zarafshan, Leninogorsk, Zyryanov, Norilsk, Uchaly, Revda and Gaya, as well as in Mongolia, Bulgaria and North Macedonia, establishing the company as a supplier of process technology and plants across the mining regions of the former Soviet Union and south-eastern Europe. In 2008 the company reconstructed a gold processing plant in Uzbekistan using bio-oxidation technology, extending its metallurgical capabilities into refractory gold ores. In 2019 Engineering Dobersek commissioned the world's first unit of its STR System for the oxidative roasting of gold-bearing raw material at the Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Combine in Uzbekistan, a milestone in its proprietary process portfolio. By the beginning of the new decade the company had acquired a controlling stake in the Kazakh engineering company Kazzinctech Engineering. That firm had been created on the basis of the design and engineering bureaux of the largest mining and metallurgical enterprises of eastern Kazakhstan and brought with it more than 80 years of experience in designing industrial and civil facilities. The acquisition strengthened Engineering Dobersek's engineering capacity and its position in the Central Asian market. Over its history the company has maintained representative offices in Kazakhstan, Russia, North Macedonia, Serbia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan, reflecting a business model oriented towards international project delivery in resource-rich regions. Its service scope spans the entire project lifecycle, from the first concept and planning and design through construction and supply to commissioning, with a stated ambition to combine sustainable technologies with economic efficiency.
