Overview
Enter Music (originally launched as Enter) was a Ukrainian music television channel that began broadcasting on 1 June 2001 and ceased transmission on 15 April 2012. It was part of the U.A. Inter Media Group, one of Ukraine's major media holdings. The channel was replaced by the children's channel Pixel TV. At its launch, Enter had no live programming and no "Music" suffix in its branding. The first live broadcast came on 22 April 2002 with the morning show "RUNОЩІ", which became the first Ukrainian live morning interactive program and was considered a breakthrough for Ukrainian entertainment television. Music programming was often organized in blocks: if a viewer saw nu-metal videos begin, that block would continue for half an hour to an hour, followed immediately by another genre such as hip-hop. The channel also introduced interactive services for viewers. In musical terms, Enter prioritized Ukrainian artists first, global artists second, and artists from other CIS countries third. According to Vitaliy Bardetskyi, the channel's first program director, its main focus was alternative pop that other music media would not play. From 1 July 2005, Enter-Music began rebroadcasting programs from the Russian music channel MTV Russia, which caused some controversy. This practice ended on 1 January 2006 following a decision by Ukraine's National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting, which ruled that retransmitting the Russian channel did not fit Enter-Music's license conditions and that subleasing the channel violated Ukrainian law. In early 2009, the channel underwent a relaunch, becoming more information-oriented and shifting from alternative music to popular music. The channel's closure in April 2012 was explained by its director Yuriy Molchanov as due to oversaturation of the Ukrainian airwaves with music channels and a general decline in the popularity of music television, as the development of the internet, online streaming, and podcasts allowed users to choose their own music, significantly reducing interest in music television where music is selected by an editor. On 15 April 2012, the channel ceased broadcasting. Enter Music aired a range of music-focused programs including Performance (live concert and award show broadcasts), Document (musician biographies and music documentaries), RE: ставрація (music of the 1970s–1990s), News (show business news), Artist Active (interviews with musicians), Enter-mail (music videos by viewer request), and SMS Top 20 (a music chart based on SMS voting by viewers). The channel changed its logo four times over its history.
