Overview

Entergy Mississippi traces its origins to The Mississippi Power & Light Company, chartered in 1923 by Arkansas businessman Harvey Couch and his associates, which later became Entergy Mississippi. The company delivers electricity to more than 460,000 utility customers across Mississippi, and as of Dec. 31, 2025, serves approximately 459,000 electric customers in 45 of Mississippi's 82 counties.

History

Entergy Mississippi's history began over a century ago when Harvey Couch had the idea to bring safe, affordable, reliable power to the Middle South. In 1923, he chartered The Mississippi Power & Light Company, which later became Entergy Mississippi. The company began operations the following year by taking over utility systems in Columbus, Greenville, Jackson and Vicksburg. In 1946, MP&L began building its first major generating plant, the Rex Brown Steam Electric Station in Jackson, which became the first large source of electricity generation in Mississippi after startup in 1948.
