Overview
EnviroLogix is a developer of rapid diagnostic testing solutions, including GMO trait detection, mycotoxin testing, foodborne pathogen detection and environmental applications. Founded in 1996, it opened a second office in Brazil in 2007 and was purchased by Ensign-Bickford Industries, Inc. in 2010. The company operates locations in Portland, Maine and Jaguariúna, Brazil, and serves customers across the agricultural supply chain, from life science companies to small businesses. Its technology is designed to deliver point-of-need results on site, eliminating the cost and delay of sending samples out for testing.
History
EnviroLogix was founded in 1996. It opened a second office in Brazil in 2007 and was purchased by Ensign-Bickford Industries, Inc. in 2010. The company describes itself as a global leader in the development of rapid GMO and mycotoxin detection technology, with a motivation from the beginning to create breakthrough diagnostic technologies. Its technology portfolio includes several industry firsts: in 2003 QuickComb was the first grouping of Lateral Flow Devices (LFDs) allowing detection of all available GMOs in one sample; in 2004 it pioneered the industry's first LFD strip for detecting mycotoxins in grain; in 2009 it introduced QuickScan, an optical reader enabling quantification of GMOs and mycotoxins using the first bar-coded LFD strips; and in 2011 DNAble was developed as the first commercialized isothermal molecular detection test in the market, offering fast on-site DNA results without a complicated lab setup. In 2014 an exclusive distribution agreement was signed with Douglas Scientific, pairing DNAble chemistry with high throughput capabilities.
