Overview
Ergon-Verlag is a humanities academic publisher with more than 30 years of tradition. It focuses on high-quality content and book design, with program focuses in Oriental studies, literary studies, history, education, and religious studies, among others. Since 2018, it has been part of Nomos Verlagsgesellschaft and operates from Baden-Baden.
History
Ergon-Verlag was founded in 1989 by Dr. Hans-Jürgen Dietrich in Würzburg. The first publication was a bibliophile collection volume titled 'Wieviel Garten braucht der Mensch?' co-edited by the humanities departments of the University of Würzburg. The publisher later took over the care of the Rückert-Gesellschaft e.V., giving the program an Orientalist-literary orientation. The publication of Rückert's unique Koran translation brought wide attention. Over time, the portfolio expanded to a broad spectrum of humanities and social sciences. In summer 2018, the founder retired and Ergon transferred to Nomos Verlagsgesellschaft, continuing at a new location in Baden-Baden.
