Overview

E. Schnapp Co. Works Ltd. (Hebrew: מפעלי ע. שנפ ושות' בע"מ, commonly known as Schnapp) is an Israeli company specializing in the import, marketing and distribution of batteries, tires and automotive accessories. Founded in 1951 by Dr. Emanuel Schnapp, Eliezer Basyuk and Moshe Rosenstein, the company established its first battery factory in the northern industrial zone of Netanya. Initially batteries were hand-made in rubber cases sealed with tar, but over the decades the plant acquired advanced knowledge, technology and machinery, moving to polypropylene cases in 1977 and later to maintenance-free 'Batteromat' designs. Schnapp became a public company in April 2007 and for several years in the first decade of the 21st century was controlled by Kaman Holdings. In 2012 it acquired Alliance Marketing Israel and began importing and marketing tires. In 2017 it purchased 50% of A.D.I. Systems and started importing and marketing automotive accessories. At the end of 2018 the company closed its battery factory due to high production costs compared with purchasing finished batteries. Today Schnapp operates as a major importer and distributor. It is the exclusive Israeli importer of Trojan deep-cycle batteries (since 2006) and describes itself as the largest battery marketer in Israel. Its product range includes lithium batteries, car batteries, Start & Stop batteries, truck batteries, motorcycle and ATV batteries, batteries for electric vehicles and mobility scooters, lift-platform batteries, washing-machine batteries, UPS backup batteries, fire-detection and solar batteries, caravan and boat batteries, jump starters and chargers, and EV charging stations. The company also provides battery testers and chargers, nationwide service stations, warranty registration and a strong environmental program that includes air purification, water filtration, waste neutralization and recycling of old batteries.

History

E. Schnapp Co. Works Ltd. was founded in 1951 by Dr. Emanuel Schnapp, Eliezer Basyuk and Moshe Rosenstein, a Tel Aviv merchant. The factory was established in the northern industrial zone of Netanya. In its early years batteries were produced by hand in rubber cases sealed with tar. Over the years the plant developed, acquiring knowledge, technology and machinery for manufacturing batteries of improved quality. In 1977 Schnapp began producing batteries in polypropylene cases using partially automated mechanization; these cases are still in use today. In 1986 the company signed a know-how agreement with the French company CEAC (now EXIDE). That year production was upgraded to batteries with envelope separators and maintenance-free 'Batteromat' batteries. In 1991 Schnapp began exporting batteries to Romania, and over the years the plant expanded its export destinations to additional European countries. In 1995 the company was certified and received the Israeli and international ISO 9002 quality standard; the plant was also certified to ISO 9001-2000. In 2006 Schnapp received the franchise to serve as the exclusive importer of TROJAN in Israel. In April 2007 it became a public company. For several years in the first decade of the 21st century the company was controlled by Kaman Holdings. In 2012 the company acquired Alliance Marketing Israel and began importing and marketing tires. In 2017 the company purchased 50% of A.D.I. Systems and began importing and marketing automotive accessories. At the end of 2018 the company closed its battery factory due to high production costs compared with purchasing. Environmental protection has been a long-standing focus: the factory installed advanced air purification systems, water filtration and waste neutralization systems, and integrated recycling into the production process. In its marketing network, Schnapp collects old batteries destined for recycling into raw materials for industry.
