Overview
EUROAVIA is the European Association of Aerospace Students. Its official site describes it as an international community bringing together future aerospace leaders, spanning 18 countries with 44 Local Groups and over 4000 active members, and driven entirely by students through ten Working Groups. Its history page traces first formation to 1956 in Aachen, Germany, and lists Local Group foundations from 1959 onward.
History
According to EUROAVIA's history page, the first formation occurred in 1956, when a group of students in Aachen, Germany, observed an unstable situation of the aerospace industry due to a lack of collaboration between the industry and bigger economic branches. After long discussions between students from Germany, France and the Netherlands, a solution was reached, named "A good cooperation of aerospace and astronautic industries of different countries", and a vision was created of an association of all European aerospace students. Active correspondence with professors from Belgium, France and the Netherlands began. In 1958, Aachen recruited fourteen active and highly motivated members, and the first international visit took place. The history page also lists Local Group foundations beginning with Pisa, Stuttgart and Aachen in 1959, continuing through later decades up to Aveiro in 2026. The About Us page states EUROAVIA has been bringing together future aerospace leaders since 1959.
