Overview

Paris Europlace is a French non-profit association founded in 1993 to promote and develop the Paris financial center. It serves as a privileged interface between the financial industry and public authorities as well as European institutions, acting as a think tank and mobilization body for the collective interests of the Paris financial marketplace. The association federates a wide range of actors: issuing companies, investors, banks, insurance companies, financial intermediaries, and auxiliary professions, both French and international. Its missions revolve around several axes: think tank activities through three colleges (companies, investors, and financial intermediaries) that bring together CEOs and CFOs of member companies to formulate proposals on major topics such as corporate financing, long-term savings, and bank disintermediation; European and international action, contributing to consultations with the European Commission and Parliament as well as international forums like the G20 and B20; international promotion of the Paris financial center's strengths to international investors and companies, notably through the Rencontres Financières Internationales, and cooperation agreements with emerging financial centers (Algiers, Almaty, Bahrain, Casablanca, Dubai, Moscow, Shanghai, Tunis); fintech and innovation through the global competitiveness cluster Finance Innovation, created in 2008; research in finance via the Institut Louis Bachelier (ILB), also founded in 2008; and sustainable finance, with the launch of the Finance for Tomorrow initiative in 2017, which became the Institut de la Finance Durable in 2023. The association is chaired by Augustin de Romanet, CEO of Groupe ADP, since July 2018. Paris Europlace plays a key role in shaping French and European financial regulation and in enhancing the attractiveness and competitiveness of Paris as a leading financial hub.

History

Paris Europlace was founded in 1993 by the Banque de France, the Caisse des dépôts et consignations, the Chambre de commerce et d'industrie de Paris, the Conseil régional d'Île-de-France, Euroclear France, Euronext, and the Mairie de Paris. The association was created to federate the actors of the French financial marketplace—issuing companies, investors, banks, insurance companies, financial intermediaries, and auxiliary professions, both French and international—and to promote and develop the Paris financial center. Since its founding, Paris Europlace has served as a privileged interface with public authorities and European institutions, maintaining regular dialogue and acting as a force for proposals and a body for mobilization in service of the collective interests of the marketplace. Its missions have expanded over time to include think tank activities, European and international action, international promotion, fintech and innovation, research in finance, and sustainable finance. In 2008, two key initiatives were launched: the global competitiveness cluster Finance Innovation, presided over by Bernard Gainnier, which supports innovative SMEs and mid-caps in the financial sector; and the Institut Louis Bachelier (ILB), presided over by André Levy-Lang, which works to finance, disseminate, and valorize excellence research in economics and finance. The ILB brings together academic institutions, economic partners, and public authorities around more than 40 research programs, nearly 350 researchers, and over 70 partners. In 2012, the ILB launched the Laboratoire d'excellence Finance et croissance durable. In 2017, Paris Europlace launched the Finance for Tomorrow initiative to promote the Paris financial center as a reference for green finance, aiming to mobilize and unite actors in Paris committed to a finance that bets on a sustainable future. In 2023, Finance for Tomorrow became the Institut de la Finance Durable, a change driven notably by the Perrier Report, with the aim of accelerating ecosystem development, particularly on climate issues. Augustin de Romanet, CEO of Groupe ADP, has served as chairman of Paris Europlace since July 2018. The association continues to contribute actively to European consultations and international work (G20, B20), focusing on market organization and competitiveness, European financial integration, international cooperation and exchanges, and the level playing field.
