Overview
EUWID (Europäischer Wirtschaftsdienst) is an independent trade-media publisher focused on the recycling and waste, paper and pulp, packaging, wood and furniture, and water and wastewater industries. Its editorial team researches current news and developments across these industries through a Europe-wide contact network, and the information is checked, supplemented and condensed into compact news and analyses. Its offerings include price tables covering raw materials, semi-finished and finished products, market reports analysing country-specific market developments, national and international company news, and reports on European legislation. Since 1926 EUWID customers have relied on the publisher's industry understanding and its independent, purely journalistic approach. Weekly publications are delivered to customers as print editions or made available online as e-papers before dispatch, and further online offerings include market and price report overviews, background documents and court rulings, premium news, a job market and an extensive archive.
History
EUWID traces its origins to 1926, when the first EUWID appeared in Berlin: founder Dr. Herbert Strencioch published the first news for the wood industry. It initially appeared as a clipping service that shortened news to an easily digestible length and put it on paper for the respective industry. In summer 1945 the first post-war issues were printed, and the Chemiefaser-Dienst and Kunststoff-Dienst appeared. In 1968 Dr. Casimir Katz took over the publishing house and moved its headquarters from Berlin to Gernsbach. In 1970 EUWID Papier und Zellstoff appeared, and in-house research of market data became a hallmark. In 1977 the first trainee was trained as an editor. In 1980 the first English-language publications appeared. In 1990 the portfolio was expanded with the industry service EUWID Recycling und Entsorgung, and investments in printing technology, logistics and distribution steadily advanced the publishing house. In 1995 the fortnightly publication EUWID Recycling and Waste Management appeared for the first time. In 1997 EUWID employed more than 50 staff for the first time. In 1998 EUWID Wasser und Abwasser expanded the publisher's portfolio. In 2001 EUWID celebrated its 75th publishing anniversary with a ceremony. In 2008 Dr. Martin Katz took over the business.
