Evangelische Stiftung Alsterdorf

The Evangelische Stiftung Alsterdorf is a diaconal foundation based in northern Germany. Its guiding principle is 'Menschen sind unser Leben' (People are our life). It supports people with disabilities, people at work, and people in daycare, school, or hospital settings to live as self-determined and independent a life as possible, and it works to dismantle barriers in minds, communication, neighborhoods, and social structures. Its founder was Heinrich Matthias Sengelmann, who died on 3 February 1899; the institution he founded was then known as the Alsterdorfer Anstalten and is today the Evangelische Stiftung Alsterdorf.

The Evangelische Stiftung Alsterdorf traces its origins to the Alsterdorfer Anstalten, founded by Heinrich Matthias Sengelmann. Sengelmann died on 3 February 1899 at the age of 78. The institution he founded was later continued and expanded by his successors and today counts among the large diaconal institutions in Germany.
