Overview
Evistar (Russian: Эвистор; Belarusian: Эвістар) is a Belarusian state-owned enterprise specializing in the production of electronic and electrotechnical components, particularly for agricultural and automotive machinery. The company is located in Vitebsk and operates as an open joint-stock company (OAO). It was founded on December 6, 1966, by order of the USSR Ministry of Electronic Industry, initially as part of the Plannar research and production association. Over the decades, it underwent several reorganizations, including conversion to civilian production after the Soviet era, and became part of the Vitebskprom state association in 2017. The plant produces linear electromechanical actuators, components for auto-tractor equipment, medical devices, and provides industrial services such as parts manufacturing for inter-factory cooperation. It holds an STB ISO 9001:2015 quality certificate and collaborates with major machine-building enterprises in Belarus and neighboring countries. The company is 99.93% state-owned, with shares managed by the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee through Vitebskprom. Despite its long history and diverse product range, Evistar has faced challenges, including the liquidation of its printed circuit board production in 2019 and attempts to sell off assets. Today, it remains an active player in the Belarusian industrial sector, focusing on components for agricultural machinery and industrial services.
History
Evistar was established on December 6, 1966, by order No. 622 of the USSR Ministry of Electronic Industry, within the Plannar research and production association. Initially, it was known as the Vitebsk Plant of Technological Equipment for the Electrotechnical and Instrument-Making Industry until 1975. The plant was part of the 6th Main Directorate of the Ministry of Electronic Industry of the USSR. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, in 1991 it was subordinated to the State Committee of the Republic of Belarus for Industry and Inter-Sectoral Production (which became the Ministry of Industry in 1994). In the first quarter of 1993, 450 workers were sent on forced leave. In 1994, the plant was transferred to the Plannar state concern. By 1995, it employed 2,300 people. In 2000, it was transformed into a production republican unitary enterprise (PRUP) "Zavod Evistor". In 2006, it was removed from the Plannar concern and registered in the Free Economic Zone "Vitebsk". In 2011, it was converted into an open joint-stock company (OAO), with 99.93% of shares owned by the state through the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee, which transferred management rights to the Vitebskprom association. State shares have been repeatedly offered for sale. In 2014, the plant put two production buildings up for sale. In 2019, its printed circuit board production (subsidiary UPP "Evilam") was liquidated. As of 2017, it is a participant of the state association "Vitebskprom". The plant underwent conversion and mastered production for agricultural machinery and medical purposes. It holds an STB ISO 9001:2015 certificate and cooperates with major machine-building enterprises in Belarus and CIS countries.
