Overview

Exkluziv Music Kiadó (also styled Exkluzív Music Kiadó) is a Hungarian independent record label founded on 13 June 1993 as a family business, originally under the name Exkluzív Music Kiadó Bt. It was established to support Hungarian musicians who, in the early 1990s after the political transition, were facing major changes in the domestic music market. As many new labels appeared and the multinationals entered Hungary, musicians increasingly released albums themselves; Exkluziv Music Kiadó sought to help distribute and market these private releases by building its own commercial infrastructure, while keeping sound recording and release as its core activity. The label's catalogue is deliberately broad, spanning mulatós, rock, pop and classical music, reflecting a philosophy that every album is important and carries value. Over the years it has worked with artists and groups including Bangó Margit, Demjén Ferenc, Dinnyés József, Éles István, Marót Viki és a Nova Kultúrzenekar, Miklóssy József, Prognózis and Szűcs Judit, among others. After the death of Varga Misi in April 2008, the company was reorganised as a single-member limited liability company (Kft.), retaining its original objectives. As physical music sales declined, the label discontinued wholesale distribution and now focuses on distributing its own releases. Its contact address is in Dunaharaszti, Hungary, and its releases can be found and ordered through the Rock Diszkont website.

History

Exkluziv Music Kiadó was founded on 13 June 1993 as a family business under the name Exkluzív Music Kiadó Bt. Its creation came in the early post-transition years in Hungary, when the domestic music industry was undergoing major changes. Many new record labels were being established, multinational companies were entering the market, and musicians — often after years of negative experiences — increasingly chose to release their albums independently. Exkluziv Music Kiadó set out to assist these musicians by helping to distribute and market their private releases, building its own commercial and distribution background, while its main activity remained the release of sound recordings. The label's catalogue grew to cover a wide range of genres, from mulatós and rock through pop to classical music, reflecting the principle that every album is important and represents value. Over the years it maintained long working relationships with numerous artists and groups, including Bangó Margit, Demjén Ferenc, Dinnyés József, Éles István, Marót Viki és a Nova Kultúrzenekar, Miklóssy József, Prognózis and Szűcs Judit, among others. In April 2008, following the death of Varga Misi, the company was transformed into a single-member limited liability company (Kft.), while keeping its original objectives. As physical music sales declined, the label discontinued its wholesale operations and shifted its focus to distributing only its own releases. Its releases remain available for order through the Rock Diszkont website, and the label is based in Dunaharaszti, Hungary.
