History

Exmark Manufacturing was incorporated in May 1982 as an independent manufacturer of professional turf care equipment, beginning operations with seven employees in a garage-type building just south of Beatrice, Nebraska. In 1983 the company relocated to its present location in the Gage County Industrial Park in Beatrice, where it focused on manufacturing a line of mid-size walk-behind mowers and turf rakes. In 1987, due to the rapidly growing turf care equipment market and its competitive nature, the product line was expanded to include commercial riding mowers. A pivotal development came with the introduction of a mid-mount zero-turn riding mower, the Exmark Lazer Z, with production beginning in April 1995; it was quickly accepted by turf care professionals. In 1997, the company celebrated its 15th anniversary and became a division of The Toro Company, with corporate headquarters in Bloomington, Minnesota. In 2020, Exmark celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Lazer Z zero-turn mower.
