Overview

Famiglie Arcobaleno APS is an independent association founded in March 2005, made up of LGBTQI+ parents — in couples, single or separated — who have realised their parenting project or aspire to do so. It campaigns for full equality and for a law recognising both parents at birth for the children of LGBTQI+ couples, and it creates meeting opportunities among members who are parents or aspiring parents.

History

Famiglie Arcobaleno APS is an independent association founded in March 2005. It is composed of LGBTQI+ parents — in couples, single or separated — who have realised their parenting project or aspire to do so. Its members include LGBTQI+ couples who pursue parenting through medically assisted procreation (PMA) or through gestation for others (GPA) in countries where this is permitted by law; people who had children in previous heterosexual relationships and later came out as LGBTQI+, forming so-called second-formation families; LGBTQI+ couples or single people who have chosen coparenting; and extended and blended families, separated parents, single parents and adoptive parents. The association states that it has always fought, through constant social, cultural and political work, to dismantle prejudices regarding LGBTQI+ parenting, and it calls for a law recognising both parents at birth for the children of LGBTQI+ couples regardless of the couple's status. It also creates meeting opportunities among members who are parents or aspiring parents to discuss the desire for and experience of LGBTQI+ parenting.
